Back in college I used to tape my voice with all the stuff I had to retain/memorize. I'd play it all day and through the night. It always worked.

Ok, thanks..I'd forgotten my tape recorder at home..Don't ask me why ! I use it for taping designs that come to mind when I can't sketch them. I didn't even think of using it to help me remember this stuff.
I'll pick one up today at Walmart..

I don't know if this will help, Farrah--sometimes when I'm giving lectures I'll focus a section of the lecture on one word (for instance, if I want to talk about empathy in a particular piece of literature I'll write down that word and let it remind me of what I wanted to say). I practice kind of "mini-lectures" around each word, rather than trying to remember the whole thing all together--I'll remember the string of words, and let each one jog my memory of what I wanted to say in that section. Maybe something like this will help, since you have a number of different positions to remember--I like the suggestion of the tape recorder, too. I'm sure you'll do great!

I think it's just repetition and association.
First memorize the first sentence for each posture, and that shoudl jog your memory to get the rest of the dialog out...then just practice, every day, saying it outloud.
Also I find writing thing sout helps me remember better than reading...but for this it sounds liek it would be to much to write.
The tape recorder might be a good idea, although that doesn't work for me. I just start to tune it out, or my brain wanders, and if yrou not actually focused on it, you won't retain it.

You have to memorize 26 dialogues?
In the real world of teaching, if you have to use a script to teach, you have the script right in front of you for reference. And it is often a script you have developed yourself so that you pretty well know what is on it.
What subject are you going to teach that you must memorize 26 dialogues?
If I want to memorize something, for me the best memory trick is to make a silly song out of it and sing it (at least in the privacy of your home)!
Other than that, find ways to break it down into some form of structure helps (for me at least). I remember structures and concepts better than a stream of facts.
I second ahmeerah.
I use a recorder to learn/memorize lines/speeches/verses/etc. .
Playback is extremely effective, as anyone who has unintentionally memorized the words to an annoying song which they can't stand to listen to not even one more time, until they themselves are singing it word-for-word to themselves (LoL).
"Looping" will <embed> it into your neural pathways. it's the same technique used by advertisers.
Examples for your consideration:
1. Achy Breaky Heart
2. In da Club
3. Before He Cheats - (Arrrgh!)
4. Gimme More - All in all, not SUCH a bad song, except for the fact that 1) it will forever be associated with that lacking performance and 2) the endless controversy of celebrity dribble that follows it.
Another method I use is I record myself speaking in a melody - One can use iambic pentameter or Snoop Dogg (Hee hee). Naturally, pick a melody that you already like (Your memory will be more receptive this way) and speak your speech in that melody.
Doing this helps me isolate, and by those means separate, sentence fragments allowing me to specifically isolate the word/phrase that might have slipped my mind. This way, when I do draw a blank, I viscerally "miss a beat," or 1 8-count, allowing me to deconstruct the sentence, "go back" and "fill in the blank", as opposed to fishing for a lost word/phrase within a jumble of words/side-points/phrases while I am out of sorts after being thrown off of my rythm/flow (*frazzle + sigh*).
On a lighter note, at the video store recently, "Gimme More" came on over the speaker system, and (Dare I say) my foot began to tap (Hey, it is pretty catchy) to the beat -
I nearly slapped myself.

All of which is not helping me in the least bit right now. I had read and reread the dialogue for Half Moon Pose with Hands to Feet Pose (Ardah-Chandrasana with Pada-Hastasana ) atr least 30 times, I wrote 4 -5 times but, when it came time for me to deliver it I "bombed". Bikram didn't trip, he said he I had a nice voice and allowed me to read from the paper. He said don't really worry about it, I'll get it eventually.
Me being me, I know I don't want to experience that again. I wasn't fearful of being in front of everyone, they're all very supportive for the most part. We have a few weirdos, but what place doesn't..LOL
My mind just went blank. I'm used to being able to use my own words not having to memorize someone else's.
Thanks everyone for your help, if you can think if anything else please let me know.![]()
I wasn't able to go to Walmart yesterday, I plan on going today.

There was an ancient Greek orator who used to put sections of his speech in different parts of his house, along an established route that he would often take. He would practice by learning each section in its place, and then deliver his speech by mentally walking through his house and picking up each section as he spoke. So you learn it one section at a time, and have a mental route to walk along and add each section as you get to the place where you learned it.

Thanks Yek ! I'll try that one too !

The ONLY way I can memorize anything lengthy is to write it down. I write and write and write until I can write the whole thing without messing up.
I don't really like it. But it works![]()
ummm. practice practice practice.
that's how I remember my lines when I do a play.

I agree with most of the ladies. Repetition is key, and writing a long monologue out by hand was very helpful. Another one that I do, If there's a particular part that's giving me problems, I make up a melody for it. Then I can sing it in my head. Maybe that's just the way my brain works but I can still remember some long Russian phrases because I have a tune to go with them.

do you have an mp3 player? you can record yourself and conveniently listen to it over and over without a bulky tape recorder.
although I really like Yek's Greek orator story...Imma try that sometime.

If there's a lot to memorize, break it up into smaller parcels and take it one step at a time. That's what I always did when I had to get my lines down in plays.
