    "Chinese or Japanese?"

My humblest apologies to Asians who will hopefully respond to this. A hundred pardons.

I purchased a cute Asian-themed satin smock top at Wet Seal & am turning it into a dress for work. (I am frequently bestowed the honor of "looking part Asian" by customers and dancers.)
BUT...I'm not sure if the design is closer to being described as Japanese or Chinese. You be the judge.

I need to know because I was thinking of playing themed music when I wear it onstage & I'll feel so retarded if an irate Asian accuses me of gross cultural ignorance.

    The dress, here.....

My first impression upon seeing the dress was a Japanese style print.

It looks more Japanese at first glance...are those mums? Pretty. Post pics when you're done? I wouldn't worry too much about offending patrons--most of the "cultural" strip club costumes are hardly authentic, but I can't imagine anyone complaining over a slutty Bavarian milkmaid costume or a too-skimpy kimono.

Doesn't look Chinese to me. Probably Japanese, maybe Korean. I know more about China and less about other Asian cultures so I can't say for sure, but it doesn't look Chinese in my opinion.

I think you could pull off "Native American" in that too.

    That is definitely: neither.

The print definitely looks more Japanese to me. The design, more Korean?

Hah..it's true, if you look at the dress as just a dress with no cultural background, it looks simply like a floral dress.

Why exactly are you limiting the choices to either Chinese or Japanese?

Honestly, if you bought it at Wet Seal... it's neither. Play whatever music you like and if some jerk accuses you of anything because you're wearing a certain print and dancing to a certain type of music at the same time... tell him where he can shove it. (Or, remind him that you dance to music you LIKE)

Good point. Well, I am still pretty ignorant of Asian culture. The colors struck me as Chinese, the design, Japanese.

It's American with a general Asian theme, and it's really cute. I love Wet Seal!

It's 'we tried really hard to make people think it's Asian' style.

I'm not sure if it really looks like either. However it is pretty cute!

I bought some dresses from this website when I was searching for chinese inspired looks.

Their stuff is not super high quality mind you but pretty damn good for the price you pay. I just had the dresses altered to fit me better and got a lot of compliments.
