Default Meditation and yoga for stress

I need to start doing something about my stress level before it makes me explode. I have alot of stuff to pay off right now so I need to work more and do more school work. What type of yoga would you guys recommend? Also, I think meditation is good in times of stress but I don't know how. I really need some suggestions on how I can manage stress through yoga and mediation. I don't even know where to start. Herbal remedies...anything.

Its just not good when some chic tries to merge into my lane and all I do is cuss and flip her off from my car when she can't even hear me. All because I need to flip out on something or someone to relieve some stress.

Are classes offered at your gym? Or, I have some yoga DVD's that I can lend you (although they aren't as good as taking a class).
If you think school is hard, try being stupid.

I do Hot Yoga (aka Bikram's Yoga) 3-4 times a week at a studio by work. It is yoga done in a room heated to 90-100 degrees. I like it because after sweating that much you feel really relaxed and cleansed. I have tried several yoga DVD's but nothing comes close to being in a yoga studio with a teach and other students. It is great stress relief. I work full-time and go to school part-time so I understand that need to relieve some tension. Good luck to you!

The book 8 Weeks to Optimum Health by Andrew Weil has some great breathing exercises in it for relaxation. I especially like the Relaxing Breath (p 108.) It's sort of hard to explain how to do it. Hold your tongue behind your teeth during the exercise. The exhale completely through the mouth. Then close your mouth and inhale through your nose to the count of 4. Then hold your breath for the count of 7. Then exhale through the mouth to the count of 8. Repeat this cycle at least 4 times. It's a great book with other breathing exercies and good things to do for your health.
I have a yoga dvd collection. I think the most relaxing one I own is Inner Body Flow by Angela Farmer. It's a real yoga class. It's not to hard but relaxing. It sort of difficult to find. I ordered mine off ebay.
    Hope you feel better!

I need to figure out something too. I"m the queen of flipping out and screaming in traffic. I hate getting that stressed. I tried Bikram yoga but I just didn't like it.

Hatha yoga. You concentrate on your breathing and posture, it's more meditative than other forms... not a lot of stretching and moving around physically, but it makes your brain calm.

Yoga is great for stress. AND... it's one of the only workouts where you really don't have to buy/rent 10 dvd's just to find one you like. They're all generally alike. Hell, I spent $5.50 at Walmart for a 2-disc set and am just happy as fudge with them.

When I'm under a lot of stress/anxiety, I often take walks. By the time I get back home, my mind feels wonderfully blank and settled.

Any type of excercise will release endorphins and bring down your stress level.
Try drinking strong chamomile tea and applying lavender oil to your wrists and behind your earlobe. I wear a lavendar eye mask when I sleep because I tend to be bothered by stress even when I'm sleeping..
I was doing Hatha yoga for 3 years until I found Bikram..I like it alot better, because the heat forces my body to relax.. Plus it's improved my meditation, I found that I had to meditate during the postures to keep from running out of the room in the beginning, I still do from time to time..But, there is nothing like it for releaving stress and tension. Also, breathing works wonders to reduce stress, more than you'd think. Most people tend to breathe in their upper chest and that only worsens when under stress. Try taking a deep breath for 6 seconds and holding it, then exhale for 8-10 seconds..It's the exhale that releases most of the tension, that's why it's longer.
