    Default oh, dissapointment.

alright, so, me and some pals went out strip clubbing. we went to the place where i started, so i could see how things changed.

    and oh, they have.

when we got there, this girl was on stage. she danced alot like i do... really entergetic and rough. i kind of gossipped to my friends that, she must be a beginner, although she's got the right idea, she's VERY sloppy. even her looks... ratty hair, weird outfit, etc... then the dj announces her name.

the smile on my face from gossiping with my friends faded completely.

she was who i modeled myself after, when i first started. she mentored me. took care of me. had my back. she was so fucking pretty. WAS.

i felt like getting a dance from just to hold her, and ask her, "what happenned to you, baby?"

she walked up to my table... reeking of booze, and obviously fucked up on drugs... my guess is pills. she was like "heyyyy wanna dance??" i told her no, because i couldn't bear to look at her anymore.

    i was so dissapointed.

How depressing. I mean, if you only worked with her once or twice I would understand, but your mentor? How long had it been?

I feel kind of bad for saying this, but thank you for posting that. Because last week I promised myself I wasn't going to take *insert my one and only drug of choice* at work anymore...but by last night I was back to thinking "but it's fun to be in an altered state, and I don't even do it on a regular basis, and I don't have a tolerance, I never need more than half a pill..."...blah blah blah, rationalizing it. And then I read this post. It's a slippery slope; your mentor probably didn't start out thinking that she would end up like she is now...no one does. Thanks for the reality check; I needed it.

Back when I started there was a girl that I really looked up to. She's a couple of years older than me but she was gorgeous, great dancer and super nice. I thought if you looked up stripper in the dictionary you'd see her pic.

I ran into her again this year, we were working at the same club. She's made some choices in her life that have not been kind to her. She started doing crack. One day at work she came into the dressing room with tin foil from the kitchen and made it into a make sift pipe.

The thing that really got me was one day she cornered me in the bathroom and stated going on and on about how great I am and how she looks up to me etc. While I was flattered I was heartbroken. Everything I thought about her all those years ago she was saying about me.

I respectfully recommend to the mods that this thread become a sticky. It's a cautionary tale that needs to be told, especially to newbies. Thanks Corgan for the OP.

Corgan, I had your exact same experience. My first day at Delilah's, I saw a girl that I thought was the epitome of stripper. The first thing I noticed was she was a dark Latina like me, which I thought was awesome, and she had a real presence on the stage. She was so beautiful I almost quit because I believed there was no way I was gonna make money with her around.

Fast forward five years later to this summer. I'm finishing my last class to complete my Master's, and she comes back to work after a very long disappearance. She is overweight, her hair is short and crazy, she's open about doing extras and she has a lost look in her eyes. She tells me how proud she is of me and how she remembers when I came in a scared little girl and now I'm off to bigger and better things. I wanted to kidnap her and make her back into the person I know she can be, but she has to want to do that for herself. I hope when I go back to Philly to visit, that she is better. She said she was trying to get on the right path.

This should definitely be a sticky.
