Default how to post to a work forum undercover?

there is a really excellent work forum for my current line of work, but i cannot post to it under my subscribed name as my boss reads the forum and would be paranoid and react poorly if he were to find out i kept up with the industry trends and all.

it's a moderated group, but i could resolve that part of things. my question is-- should i join under a new username and post? or should i just continue reading and applying useful info as it comes along subtly? sometimes i have relevant experience to offer, but i know my boss would wig out if i posted under my work name. it is a dilemma. perhaps the folk here can help me resolve it.

I don't understand why your boss would freak out "if he were to find out [you keep] up with the industry trends and all."
Isn't that supposed to be a good thing?

Or are we talking about possible (constructive) criticisms to him and the business, or him worrying about upholding an 'image' with your online persona, so to speak?

Either way, I feel that if you really want to share your experiences on the forum, go ahead and make up a bunch of fake info.

in a nutshell, if i appear to be keeping up, i look like i want to do this for a career, and that means i am competition, not someone who will be always available as a sidekick to observe his cleverness.

i am well-accomodated and compensated, but the less threatening i am while i'm racking up industry-specific experience (anywhere from 6-18 more months, depending on how the next couple rounds of salary negotiation go), the more i can learn and will be taught on the job.

Easily threatened boss, huh? Can you create a different account? Post from a different computer? I don't have any technical advice to give you. It's too bad that it's not anonymous in the first place.

wow.... um.... post from a home comp and under a different name/sex/whatever will discuise you.

wow. that's spelled way wrong. well.

good luck, and that sucks, I strongly dislike when people are too easily threatened.

my boss is basically like a reg-- if i appear clever, he'll realise i am getting or could get more money than he gets and send me away. so i'll post under my own name, if i want to contribute. and i think posting here vs. other forums helped me make that decision. because here there's an understanding about dealing with a guy who doesn't know how to ask for more and resents a woman who can. frankly, as much i like the freedom of working here, if my boss is so threatened he sends me away, other people in town will pick me up at a higher wage and similar conditions. although at another company i might have to show up 8-10 days per month instead of 3.

anyway, thank you for the responses. they did guide my final path.
