Default A little hair help, seriously

I got my hair done today, I got it colored and when the lady started I told her it was burning, she gave me a comb and said "beauty hurts" so I had to scratch with the comb. It is burning still, I have little pimples and it is really itchy! WDID?

Well, either she burned your scalp leaving it on to long, or you had an allergic reaction to the chemicals.

If I were you, I'd go back to the salon and show them your scalp, because if something else develops, you want them to have documentation of the problem.

Having my hair colored professionally always burns my scalp, makes ti feel real itchy...but when they rinse it, the pain goes away, and I never have a rash....

Getting your hair done should not burn, unless you have a damaged scalp to start.

Your hairdresser was absolutely in the wrong. In the future, if you complain about a pain, and a hairdresser replies like this one did, I would get up, rinse it out myself, and walk out of the salon. There's no way I'd be comfortable getting my hair done there.

Does your scalp have any damage? Like cuts, scalp psoriasis, very dry skin, or do you "pick" at it? Those conditions can cause severe burning when dye is put on, but usually goes away once the dye is rinsed out. If you know you have none of these things, it's possible you experienced a chemical burn, or a severe allergic reaction. I would take some Benedryl, and see if the rash lessens, if not, you may need to see a dermatologist that specializes in scalp damage.

No it was fine when I went in. My mom said the same thing you did and she can see the damage. She had this happen once and she had to chop off all her hair cause it was so bad. She told me to go to the doc tomorrow if it's worst. I'm so bummed.

Since it's really itchy, you might be tempted to put some anti-itching spray. Dont do it! A rash from chemcical damage, like dye, is kind of like open sores, and if you put anti-itch spray on it, it will burn horribly.

As I said, take some Benedryl or another antihistamine, and maybe try putting Neosporin on it. I had chemical damage from bleach, and tried Neosporin, and my scalp was almost completely healed two days later. Yes, your hair will look gross from it, and you'll have to wash thoroughly, several times, to get it out, but it should help it heal, and helped me with the itch as well.

You may have been allergic to something in the color. If so shame on them. Even tho stylists VERY RARELY do them you are supposed to have a test for allergic reactions 24-48 hours before color is done. Only places I know that actually do it are the schools but it is state law. At least here in CA. Im not sure about other states.

I know bleach burns.... if she used a high lift tint that may have been it... altho it shouldnt happen it can. Everytime I have my hair bleached it itches but im so used to it by now that it doesnt bother me.

Don't mind me I was eating something while taking the pic and it got stuck so I had to get it out and oh well lol

Whenever i've had my hair colored or bleached, it never burnt. When it got bleached, the colorist made sure to not apply it too close to my scalp.

You can actually sue them for this! Go make some money, lol! Hairstylists need licenses...and they're suppossed to go to a special school.............and yes people have sued for getting hurt at the salon. If you think it's worth it, get a lawyer consultation...see if you have a case...Usually some lawyers will not charge fees until you win the case...http://www.courttv.com/people/2003/0410/badhair_ap.html
That is a lot of effort, though...Maybe it's better to go back to the salon, ask to speak to the manager, ask for reimbursement of the cost you paid for getting your hair done, becuase the stylist allowed the chemicals to touch your scalp... This might be the way to go.
Then, go to another salon, maybe one where the stylists might be more experienced?
** She should have rinsed the treatment, stopped the treatment, after you were getting that itching...she was negligent! And that caused you some bad scalp damange. Tell that to them if you try to get reimbursement for what you paid...

Some hair color products also contain nonoxynol-9 (spermicide). If that ingredient was in it, maybe could be an allergic reaction. But the "beauty hurts" bit....that's not cool....

Your stylist is a douche. There's a huge difference between "I have an itch" and "it burns!".

Take a picture of your scalp. Go to the salon, show them your scalp ask what brand of color they use and what color and developer was used on you. Go to a doctor. I don't want to scare you, but if there's any hair loss you want as much information and documentation of your reaction as you can get/make. You also want avoid that paticular color line in the future.

I just called, spoke to the lady and she said "it isn't our fault and what we can do is put a special oil in your scalp, a cover to relieve the pain. this happens if the person has an allergic reaction to the dye but it's not our fault" I am pissed, I don't know if I should go and if I go I will be a nasty fucking bitch.

Uh, yea, if youre getting highlights in foils this is true. BUT there are ON the scalp bleaches and OFF the scalp bleaches. OFF the scalp bleaches will burn if they seep through the foils. Bleach expands and can leak through foils which will cause burning. There are bleaches made for on the scalp - they are not as strong and have conditioners in them to help you not feel the burning/itching. I mean c'mon - youre putting chemicals on your hair. Stuff will happen. These chemicals open your cuticle so the color can enter. Just because everyone does it all the time doesnt mean its not an invasive procedure.

Uh, yea, we go to a 'special school' - its called BEAUTY SCHOOL and all we learn is STATE BOARD CRAP. Its NOTHING like real life. In my school we DID learn some 'real life' stuff but mostly you start learning AFTER you finish school. I went for 1700 hours and spent almost $17,000 and all I know is what I learned in books -- which is totally different from what happens in real life.

As per a lawyer. You arent going to want an attorney and to go to court. Most likely shes an independant and shes renting a station. You would want to take her to small claims court. You could sue for the cost of service and pain and suffering but I would STRONGLY suggest going back to the salon and telling them/her what happened.

becuase the stylist allowed the chemicals to touch your scalp... This might be the way to go.

Uh, the ONLY service where chemicals DONT (or arent supposed to) touch the scalp is foiling so using 'chemicals touched my scalp' during a color service doesnt quite sound right.

Either way. If you had abrasions on your scalp before the service its HER fault. Were supposed to check for CADDS (cuts, abrasions, diseases and disorders) before we do a service. If anything is there we're supposed to send you on your way without a service.

Were also supposed to check with a PD test for allergic reactions.

I would call back and say - It is STATE LAW to give a pre-disposition test BEFORE applying color to check for allergic reactions. YOURE the professional here and YOU were neglegent with that.

If you cannot resolve this I will report you to State Board and file a small claims suit.

Dont think she wants to lose her license. They MUST do a pd test 24-48 hours before applying color so it IS HER FAULT you had a reaction.
What a b*tch. I would NEVER say that to a client. Ever. So unprofessional.

Call and say what I mentioned in the last post.

What did you have done - color AND highlights? (thats what it looks like)

EDIT: I said to go to the salon but that was before I read about her rude reaction when you called. The last thing you want is a screaming match BUT if youre in the salon and customers are around shed most likely give you your money back to get you to 'go away'. Wouldnt want her customers to be leary of her because of what happened to you.

Its up to you - call or in person but remember PD Test, CADDs check, State Board and Small Claims for pain and suffering.

LOG whats happened since the service including not being able to sleep, etc. And if you do end up in court bring your phone records that show you did talk to her incase she claims you never contacted her.

I called and this is what she said "we do that testing thing to new customers who have never had dye placed in their hair before but we can not do this to each and every customer. Wash with cold water and come in for the scalp treatment."

OK, so she KNOWS shes in the wrong. And now you have some power over her.

Theyre SUPPOSED to do it to EACH AND EVERY customer EVERYTIME they come in. Doesnt matter if shes been coloring their hair for 10 years. 24-48 hrs before the color is applied theyre supposed to do a PD Test.

It depends on what you want.
You CAN fight for your $$ back and court and threats and whatever but is it worth it?
A scalp treatment for free. Means shes willing to reconcile the situation and help you.

Now its really up to you.

NO it hurts on the back of my head. See it started hurting when the main color was placed. The nape of the neck and there are little pimples now. Also around my ears. When she placed the dye she put some on my ears and forehead and it burned like a bitch and this other lady after me complaining came and cleaned it off but it was I mean I still have stains on my face.

Yea, sounds like an allergic reaction. You can either file with state board and file a law suit or just go in and have her help you with a scalp treatment. Sometimes stuff happens. Its not like she purposely hurt you. If youre comfortable with her to do a treatment Id say do it and make sure she apologizes and ask her what color line she uses (so you never have that line used again)

Now that you know you are allergic to color when you go to have color done again youll want to ask the stylist to do a PD Test because youre prone to a reaction. Any stylist should be ok with that. Takes 1 minute. As long as youre willing to go in and have it done.

Stains happen with every color service - a secret? Windex will get it off. So will Simple Green
