    Default Mad Men

Has anyone been watching this new show? I love it. They really don't shy away from unhappiness, but it's still so funny in ways. I wasn't alive during the sixties...and yet I feel that really well-developed characters are timeless. Betty and Joan are kind of my new heroes. I really feel like I could have been a Betty in another life (not looks wise, just crazy-wise).

I so do not mean to be this kind of threadnanny, but: http://www.stripperweb.com/forum/showthread.php?t=97727

Just 'cause I love it too!

(Wasn't tonight's episode just . . . SO pitiful. Poor repressed Joan's roommate, for one thing! I thought for a SECOND we might be in for some hot girl-girl action . . . )

What was up with Joan screwing the ugly old guy she picked up?

Old man Cooper told her not to waste her youth on guys like him. Said she could do better and he was right.

Nononono! Don't be! *I* feel sheepish for being all "AHEM" about the other one. I just happened to be the OP of the other thread since I love the show, so I knew about it.

Regardless! I'm the most curious about where they're going with Pete and Peggy, separately AND together. I admit I'll be disappointed if it turns out she got knocked up and will be looking for a backalley abortion, or lose her job because she's having a kid. Both approaches seem so Lifetime Special. I loved how original this show has been so far, let's hope they don't go for such cliches.

I personally suspect Pete might steal one of her ideas and take credit for it.

But didn't you love how Joan was obviously bothered at the beginning of the show, talking about the movie "The Apartment" and how badly Shirley MacLaine, the elevator operator, was treated by the men? "Passing her around like a tray of canapes"? And then at the end, the scene with Cooper. Ending in the elevator. With him asking Joan to press the Lobby button. She obliges.

It's those kinds of scenes that set this show apart.

    Yes, very well done.

And at the end did you notice how bothered Joan seemed by Sterlings heart attack? Maybe it made her realize that she could go nowhere with Sterling.

I felt bad for Joan and her roomate. Maybe more so roomate, but how else could Joan have responded if she didn't feel the same? I also feel bad for Rachel. She's so good and Don's such a jerk. A clever and interesting guy, but still. Loved Betty and the B.B. gun...

And I also love that Betty's pregnant foil-friend is the same actress who played Albee's evil wife on Big Love (I shall also take all henceforth discussion over to the original thread).
