Default hey, beauty/makeup fans, read this!

i'm really trying to get my stash of beauty supplies down to the nitty gritty... trying to find as close to an "HG" of something that i possibly can. i have a few questions about some items, so i can decide which items to "garage sale", or swap away on a mu swap site. help?

okay, so... i have some murad acne spot treatment. haven't used it yet...but i see it's made with sulphur. is that better for your skin? i just started trying persagel... it's doing alright.

i need makeup brushes. give me rec's?? i know mac brushes are excellent, but i have to drive 2+ hours to get to a mac. i do need something with soft bristles though.

i'm a bare minerals girl... but i want to try a foundation for when i break out badly (period time!) to wear underneath. i am soooooooo into makeup for ever at the moment... any rec's for mufe? i loooooooove the star powder already :]

Sulphur in acne products is an alternative to benzoyl peroxide. Many people are sensitive to BP so they use sulfur instead. As far as whats better, that depends on what works for you. Everyone's skin is different.

The other stuff... I dunno. I'm only an expert on zits lol!

I've yet to find brushes that compare to mac, so I'd say make a day trip!

but if you have a sephora by you, why not try some from there? they have, like, a wall of brushes!

Badger hair brushes are the best, I have a set of them and I love them!

Make up for ever foundations and base's are excellent - I've tried MAC base and it just doesn't have any staying power and is way to greasy. An hour later, even after powder my face looks like an oil slick. Ew.

Also if your cost conscious - Revlon stay on base with soft flex. I always have a bottle or two of this in my make-up case.

Persagel has always worked great for me, but it makes my skin look OLD, my eyes dry and wrinkled, and it dyes my clothing worse than bleach. I've just started using Joesoef.....all of their products include sulphur. It seems to be working like the BP minus the bleaching and parched skin.
I'm sure Persagel is fine for spot treatment, but I'd just as soon not wait for the zit before I treat it, so I apply all over.

I find the products with a combo of Sulfur and BP work the best for my skin (this is what is in Proactiv which is found great).

I have been buying some of the Body Shop's cruelty free brushes. They aren't the same as animal hair ones but I find them very soft and they apply the colours nicely. And they are not too expensive (around $10-$22 a brush here).

I use MAC makeup brushes but before I got into those I really liked the Sonia Kashuk brushes at Target.

I like the MAC brushes, you can always order them online if you don't wanna drive.

I also LOVE MUFE's foundation. Love love love. Love so much that the other day that's all I was wearing when I walked into work and one of the girls I work with told me how great I looked without makeup.

I haven't tried the Murad stuff, but my old roomie swears by it, though I *think* she only uses the cleansers. Good luck

About 2 weeks ago, I got this whole 60 day supply with the 5 steps and stuff (like Proactive) shipped to my house, for the tenant that moved out more than 3 months ago!! Cool huh?

I had some BADDD patches of acne that I'd be trying to clear up for over a month (usually white-bottle Neutrogena has been working for me, as well as their 8-hour spot treatment) but like, this acne was resilient....after using the Murad, it has improved DRASTICALLY--I say keep it! I know you only have the spot treatment, but still...good on hand for emergencies at least! (And it's prob the strongest in the whole 5 steps)

Oh but I guess I'd be wary of ordering from them, lol! Unless you want yr shit shipped 3+ months late!

Sxybrat, what kind of mufe do you have? For my first time lastnight, i bought MUFE liquid lift foundation...the pansticks seemed like they would work really well too though.

    I also bought some brushes.

This was my first time going all out on expensive makeup and i have to say it felt great.

I like MAC brushes b/c they are excellent quality and not quite as expensive as other high-end brushes. Esp if you have a discount. I like these ones:

187 - the best face brush I own. It applies liquids, creams, and powders flawlessly. I actually want to buy another one so I can have one for wet products and one for dry.

266 - angle brush for the brows and applying shadow underneath the eyes. Can also be used for Fluidline, but make sure you clean it regularly. The 263 is synthetic hairs and is better for fluidline if you use it often.

222 - my favorite crease brush.

217 - my favorite fluffy eye brush for blending.

239 - soft but stiff bristles, flat and square-ish shaped. I use it on the outer v.

116 - applies blush flawlessly, but I want to get the 188, since it's similar to the 187, just smaller.

If you want to buy some cheap brushes to tide you over till you can get to MAC, check out Sonia Kashuk at Target as mentioned above.

I like MUFE's Face & Body Foundation. I doubt I will ever buy another MAC foundation, but I do like their MSF Naturals with a kabuki brush for quick daytime makeup. Next on my list to try is Giorgio Armani Matte Silk and Luminous Silk. But it's $62 CAD (plus 14% tax ), so I'll wait till I'm in the states next to buy. I think it's about $40 USD. (Hmm, maybe we could do an exchange?? I'll get you what you want from MUFE and you ship me some Armani?? PM me if you want)

thanks latina rose!!! I have a ton of brushes. Mostly sephora professonal which someone spent a boatload on for me. I bought a mac brush that my friend had about 6 months ago, and i believe nothing is better than it.

I will go and check those brushes out. You get the 40 percent because you are a makeup artist, right? How did you get into that? I just applied a week ago for the 30 percent off.

Hey, if it works for you and you are happy with it, great!! A lot of people have complaints about MAC foundations, mostly these:

    - can cause breakouts (esp studio fix fluid)
    - shades run orange (this is leftover from when they went to a company for consumers, not makeup artists)
    - tends to be greasy, masky, cakelike

    MUFE:

    - created for professionals (meaning you might have to mix 2 colors to get your perfect shade)
    - excellent for photography (no spf, which reflects light, making your face look pale)
    - you can always create a perfect shade
    - long lasting, buildable coverage

Most pro makeup artists don't use that much MAC anymore unless they work for MAC. Their line really changed when they were bought out by Estee Lauder. Don't get wrong, I still LOVE MAC and so do a lot of others. But they are the cheapest of the high end brands and I get a discount. I would use a lot more Nars, MUFE, Smashbox, Cargo, and others if they were in the same price range as MAC. Especially with prices in Canada. But I won't use their foundation, ever.

I do like their MSF Naturals with a kabuki brush, but that is a powder, not a liquid.

Any makeup artist worth her weight will tell you MAC makeup brushes aren't worth the money. Stila on the other hand...

ok, i'm back with a few things to say!

murad acne spot treatment: works. the little cysts on my chin finally have emerged and are poppable! i will rebuy

makeup brushes: i just need a good, soft brush. i know mac's are soft. if they are too hard, they cut my face... then at work my face burns when i sweat! i don't mind paying for a soft lush brush... but i'm not down for paying $75 for a nars kabuki, you know?

My favorite face brush BY FAR is MAC 187. I want to buy another one, so I can use one for liquids/creams and one for powders.
