Default bought new laptop what a rip off

I am in the middle of doing an assignment and my trial version of microsoft office - obviously including WORD has just run out so now I cant do my essay!!

I can't believe new computers dont even include a full version of the program anymore! What a rip off.

So does anyone know how much the actual full version is worth and can I just do this online? It's 9pm here so the shops are not open and I need to do this assignment ARRRRGGGHHHH.

If your documents aren't in the latest wierdo format of Office 2007, you should try http://www.openoffice.org/ . The software is made collaboratively by people around the world who believe that everyone shouldn't be enslaved by one company like Microsoft.

    Hope this helps.

For just the typing, there is Wordpad on the computer. It will not spellcheck and it has limited formatting options, but it is already there.

The educational/student version of Word is merely $108 or so.

    Here's a link:

    http://www.nextag.com/microsoft-word...nt/search-html

Downloading it from microsoft, directly, costs about $30 more.

OpenOffice is good, and free, but ti uses different menus, so if you rely on special features of Word when you write, it may take some getting used to.

I use old versions of WordPerfect, which I can get in OEM form from computer shops for around $30. I like its methods best.

They used to give you Microsoft Works, which was just horrific. The only way it comes now, is if you specifically ask for it. Word comes in a 30-day dealy.

Open Office.org is a great suite for free, but be mindful to download it with the Java Runtime Engine, so there are no conflicts. Also, be mindful to SAVE AS, and choose word format so people you send your essays to can read it.

If you need word, and have some issues getting to it, let me know.

If you complain to Microsoft, don't do what I did. I had an issue with an Access application not working well with Mozilla Firefox. After a few exchanges, I began address my messages to "Comrade John Smith, The People's Republic of Microsoft"

For some reason, he quit responding.

If you have a Gmail account, there's a semi-integrated online word processor called "Google documents." It's not as complete as Word or Corel or whatever, but it has a spellcheck and basic formatting abilities, so it's fine for paper-writing. It also rules because it saves your docs online, so it functions as a sort of virtual hard drive which you can access from anywhere. However, I don't know if you can use Google's word processor without having some sort of account (like Gmail or whatever else Google offers, which I know some are loathe to do). Anyway, if you need a Gmail invite, I can send you one.
