    Default Adderall, post viral syndrome

So, I went to a specialist finally regarding being tired all the time and he says I have a post viral syndrome from the mono I had during the summer. I also have low blood pressure. My BP was 116/80 sitting and 82/52 standing. I don't keep fluids in very long because I have overactive bladder. His advice to me is to drink half a gallon of water daily and carry around a teaspoon of salt in a container to distribute over my food throughout the day. I am to also take Vitamin D and Magnesium. And he gave me something for the overactive bladder as well. He also wants me to take Adderall, 20mg in the morning to help with my fatigue. Well, I tried half first this morning and didn't really feel anything but a little more mellow. I took the other half at noon and boy I was ready to go. I had a lot more energy and I even felt more confident but somehow less aware. It was weird. Plus my heart was beating a little faster than normal. I hope it will give me more energy along with the other things I am to do and more frequent rest periods. Any thoughts, ideas, advice, feedback?

the initial effects (both good and bad) from Adderall wear off after the first few days, Its hard to tell what the right dosage will be for you right in the beginning.if you dont have ADD, it should give you energy...I have ADD and it just slows me down.

It sounds like I have the same probs you do. The low blood pressure, mine is 100/60 sittings, the overactive bladder, and constant fatigue. I really want to talk to my doctor about this now, and I have an appt. on Friday. Please keep us updated on the effects the Adderall is having. Also, do you know why he wants you to have more sodium in your diet?

Sodium increases the blood pressure. I kind of like the Adderal so far. I feel more confident and energetic.

Of course you do, you're on speed.

And no this comment is not meant to be rude. Just be careful with that stuff.

I know it's a form of speed. I take the recommended dosage. Why would that make you more confident though?

Holy shit, over the last hour I feel like a truck ran over me. I am sort of suddenly feeling tired as hell, even more tired than before again.

^^You're coming down for the day. Do you have a headache and all that stuff? I take mine for ADHD, and when it starts to wear off for the day I am not as thirsty, I get a little hungry again, and sometimes it gives me a headache from hell. I can't imagine taking it and having it speed me up, because the comedown would suck balls.

Consult a herbalist/ homeopath. I know the doctors on the board wouldn't agree with that, but for sufferers of chronic illness, there's nothing to lose. You'll still be ailing sometimes, whatever you do.

You should change your diet too, which stinks initially but once you adjust you'll feel better.

I don't actually have CFS or Fibromyalgia. I have 9 of 11 symptoms of the Fibromyalgia. The doctor I went to specializes in CFS, Fibromyalgia and other auto-immune deficiencies. He advised me to take vitamin D, Magnesium, a good multi-vitamin, half a gallon of water, one teaspoon of salt and the Adderal daily. I took all of those today. I did have a crash earlier but after I took the remainder of salt and water along with a little Advil I was fine. I have been focusing remarkably better but I am experiencing more apathy. I really like the doctor though. He spent 3 hours with me. I mean it was 660 bucks but he recorded our conversation and his advice to me on a tape for me to take home. He also gave me a lot of information on how to battle fatigue with rest periods and such. Here is his website www.drlapp.net.

I restrict my diet quite a bit. I don't eat red meat and rarely eat pork. I consume a lot of chicken, turkey and fish. I include a lot of fiber in my diet as well. I love veggies and fruits. For instance, today I had oatmeal for breakfast, a veggie and chicken whole-wheat wrap and fruit cup for lunch, orange sherbet this afternoon and a lean cuisine for dinner. I know frozen dinners aren't great but they do have a lot of sodium in them. I also just ate some whole wheat crackers with peanut butter.

Like a previous poster mentioned, adderall can give you a false sense of well-being when you first start taking it (probably due to its dopaminergic effects).

Up until a couple of years ago, stimulants like adderall were about all a regular (allopathic) physician could prescribe to promote wakefulness for conditions like MS, post herpetic neuralgia, and "idiopathic hypersomnia."

A more recently developed alternative, if the adderall doesn't work, is a medication called Provigil (modafinil). Unlike adderall and ritalin, it promotes wakefulness without any euphoric effects. It is not approved for ADD and is prescribed only for promoting wakefulness. It has a long duration of action and there is usually no "crash."

I don't have any trouble staying awake throughout the day typically, I am just tired.

I take Adderall too, on an as-needed basis. I break a 5 mg. tablet in half and take one half in the morning and the other half mid-afternoon. Try doing that and see if it helps avert a mid-day crash.

Also, a word of caution: don't tell anyone you're taking Adderall. Everyone wants it.

No kidding. I got off of it when I sobered up, and went back on a few months later. I didn't tell anyone because my old friends were ALWAYS trying to get pills from me. Now I only have one person who bugs me about it, and as far as she knows, I'm off of it.

The pills are 20 mg and I had been breaking them up the last couple of days. A friend of mine suggested I just take the whole thing at one time. I did that this morning and HOLYYYYYY MOTHA F*CKIN' SHIT!!!! I thought I was going to have a orgasm in my pants with no stimulation, I felt like I was on top of the world. I honestly feel guilty admitting how damn good it made me feel. Right now I feel like absolute shit though. I will definately spread it out tommorrow. 1/4 in the early am and another 1/4 in the later am. I am suppose to take it morning to keep it from interfering with my sleep. I am not taking a whole one again. I can see why people abuse it and I refuse to be one of those people. Life for what is is hard enough and don't need to make it worse with an addiction. Despite the fact I don't think I'll ever be able to get off Effexor, which is suppose to be non-addictive, I can debate that all day btw. I tried to wean off of it and that was a living hell. I almost rather die than experience that again. So, yeah, I have to watch it.
