On Saturday I went to Visions, really pumped up, confident, and ready. I walked through the door. The bartender was really nice, but he said I should come back tomorrow, around nine. So I went home to the shelter, feeling much much better about this whole situation. Even though I didn't talk to the bartender/bouncer guy for long, he made me feel totally at ease. I went to sleep that night with visions of me dancing and guys throwing tons of money at me.
The next night, though, I wasn't feeling so good. I had a headache, and I felt like I was about to throw up. I couldn't go on Stripperweb and look up some quick dancing tips, or ask for last-minute advice, because the library is closed on Sundays. And my bastard ex-boyfriend said that I couldn't use his computer.
So I walked in the club, which was considerably more packed than yesterday. I wasn't in there 30 seconds before I was carded. I told him that I was there for amateur night, and the guy (who was the DJ) led me to the back room, where he had me sign a contract. I exclaimed, "I didn't know this was a nude bar!" (because it's always advertised as topless, even on its website!) I mean, I didn't care going nude, I was just a homeless person and hadn't shaved!I explained this to the DJ, who told me I could just do my own thing if I wanted. So, by the time that I signed the contract, I was feeling pretty good, and definitely not nervous. Then he told me to chill out for a while, so I sat down and watched the Visions girls perform. Watching them calmed me down; I felt like, if they could do it, I could do it. But I realized that they had waay more experience than I. They were doing things that I knew I had to train myself to do. But the one criticism I have about their dances was that a lot of them seemed "mechanical" just the same thing over and over. The crowd didn't mind though.
I was sitting there for a while, and this drunk guy came up and started touching my face. It made me really uncomfortable, but I wasn't about to run out of the room. I just told the bartender, and he left me alone.
I wore the babydoll/black bra/panties, as I thought that this might be the better outfit.
Okay, so the actual dance. There were six girls competing for amateur night, and me and this girl named Nebraska were up first. She was really nice (actually all of the dancers were nice, there was no cattiness at all). We walked up there, and she started spinning on the pole first. I walked over to some college students who looked totally uninterested, so I gave up on them. I struggled to take my clothes off, but whenever I made a mistake, I would smile flirtatiously and make a funny aside to whoever was watching me, and they would laugh and tip me. I dunno...I think that my dancing could have gone way better. I got tipped $17 or $18 total, and Nebraska got tipped way more. But it's a lot of money to me anyhow.
So the other two sets of girls went. The contest was totally unfair. Those college kids who were unresponsive to me had come in with a girl who was competing. Guess who they cheered the loudest for? Guess who won $100?
I was in last place with Nebraska. They actually asked both of us to leave the stage so that they could choose the winner. Ouch.
But, whatever. I had a fun night last night. I think that if there were only the first two girls who had come in (me, Nebraska, and this short girl) I would have had a better shot at winning.
You can only do Amateur night a few times a year, so unless Visions calls me back and offers me a job, I guess I'll be out of money again. (Visions is the only strip club in the city). But hey, you never know what the future might bring. One of the Amateur girls (who should have won, because she's really good and has only been dancing for two weeks) told me that the Wisconsin Dells (a tourist town in WI) was where the real money was. She told me that she was 18 and already had an apartment, was about to get a car, etc. She said that it was $18 to take a Greyhound to that city, and she said that I could room with her and make some serious dough. I gave her my number. I also gave Nebraska my number. So you never know where this networking will take me!![]()
The End. Of my dancing career? Maybe not.![]()
