Exclamation Withdrawal Headaches from Benadryl, Please help

Last Thursday is the last time I took my Benadryl. Since I have a deviated septum, I have chronic sinus problems such as congestion, pressure, puffiness, etc, so I go through phases where I have to take Benadryl for extended periods of time when I go to sleep every night. Sometimes I have to take them every night for weeks at a time, and then it will ease up and I don't have to take any. (I know I need surgery, that this isn't healthy, etc but I have no health insurance, so please no lectures or "go see a doc" here).

Well last Wednesday night/Thursday morning was the last time I took the Benadryl, and since then I just haven't needed to really take it, so I stopped. Maybe I was taking them for a longer period than usual, but now I have horrible withdrawal syndrome.

I can deal with the fatigue, shakiness, and dizziness, but I'm posting here about the withdrawal headaches I'm getting. I have had a bad withdrawal headache from not taking the Benadryl since THURSDAY.

    It's Tuesday.

It just refuses to go away. I have been laying on the couch inactive with this headache for 5 days. I am drinking water. WTF? Everytime it calms down a bit it flares up bad again. I try Excedrin, Aleve, Ibuprofen. Even Ativan. Nothing is knocking this out.

How long can withdrawal headaches last??? Is there ANYTHING I can do to make it go away? Enough is enough, I want my life back!

Also, when will the nausea go away?

Well first off, I am obsessed with Benedryl. I have severe allergies and asthma and sinus issues,a nd Benedryl wa sthe only thing that helped. I have tried every prescription drug there is, even combinations of 3 or 4 of them, but none of them equaled Benedryl. I usually take anywhere from 2-6 a day, every day, depending on how bad my symptoms are.

I was concerned that it was unhealthy, but I consulted several doctors, including allergy and sinus specialists, and they all agreed that it was perfectly healthy for me to take if other medications weren't helping. So you may not have an issue at all.

As for the withdrawal, as like any drug you atke regularly, there will be withdrawal. Did you just go cold turkey and stop taking it altogether? If so, i would suggest weaning off it. How many did you take before? One a day, two? If so cut your dosage. If you took 2 a day, cut back to one, then one every other day, then every 2 days, and so on. By taking a medication regularly, then dropping it suddenly, your system crashes, resulting in nausea and headaches and shakes. Try weaning.

I stopped partly because I'd take it at night, and I felt like shit the entire next day.

If I wean that means I have to take the stuff, and it makes me sleepy. That's why it's a nighttime thing. I don't particularly want to take it again. Will it help to wean if I only take it at night?

I did stop cold turkey. That's how I usually do it, like I said I go through cycles of needing it. But I have never had withdrawal like this.

Since I stopped cold turkey, can I still do weaning? I only took 2-3 every night, so how would the weaning schedule work?

Weaning would still work. I would try taking 2 every night for 2 days. Then go to 1 every night for 3. Then try every other night.

...You can also break the generic pills in half.

Your headaches may partially be due to sinuses over-reacting. If that's the case, try breathing steam and snorting a bit of salt water up your nose, then rolling your head back and around slowly to let it get in there. That's what I do when I get a sinus headache (that and I take sudafed; I can't stand benadryl myself, it causes me to have sleep paralysis.)
