u mean thrush? adults can get it... wash hands and carry Purell
No, it isn't Thrush. Thrush is yeast (fungus).
HFM disease is caused by enterovirus, most commonly coxsackievirus.
As far as virus' go it's no big deal generally. Mild fever, poor appetite, malaise and frequently a sore throat. It also presents with skin rash and small mouth ulcers (cancre sore type things).
It tends to run it's course in 7-10 days.
Chances are as an adult you've had it and have some immunity to it.
As for prevention, the usual stuff, hand washing etc.

yep! she's got it then. thank you!
damn - i need to start using google.

^ i thought this was life threatening, i was freaking out!!!! lol
^^^Often people confuse Hand Foot and Mouth disease with Foot & Mouth disease which is totally different, maybe thats what you were thinking of?

i wasn't thinking about anything, the thread title made me freak out! but, that's just my american paranoia...
Well if she does have it you will have to be very careful now too.
Make sure you always use your own towels and facecloths. Even be careful with things like dishes, cups, cutlery etc. Make sure they are washed immediately in hot water (even with a bit of bleach) to prevent you from getting it.

i think i had it when i was a kid, and it's viral, so i should have some immunity to it. but yeah, we're trying to be pretty careful.
It is also called Fifths Disease I had a friend who works ina daycare and got it she had to wear gloves for a while to keep from passing it to her family. Tell youre friend next time remember to were gloves when changing babies.
Yeah, most common name for it these days is Fifths disease.... all of my kids had it during my oldest son's first grade year. Not a huge deal... just icky looking.
!
I've had it and all my kids had it. It was no biggie...
One daughter and myself had almost no rash/blistering at all and the others had it so mild that it wasn't something you'd notice unless it was pointed out.
