Default a question for the makeup-savvy people

What's the difference between pigment and shadow? I was drooling in the eye makeup section of MAC the other day and wondered. I know pigment is loose powder and eye shadow is pressed, but other than that? Does one have better staying power than the other? Is one easier to blend? Does one go on brighter or more sheer than the other? Can you use them together, like create a look using one pigment and two shadows? Curious...

Pigments are more color rich. So, your color will be more intense and dramatic. I use MAC's regular shadows and it's perfectly dramatic enough for me. I'd ask the beauty consultant to do a demo on me next time I was there. LatinaRose deals a lot with MAC so I'm sure she'll have some better advice to give you.

From my understanding some pigments can be used on lips and cheeks with he right mixing mediums.

Pigments are usually richer and easier to blend. They are also multi-use and can be used with mixing medium to achieve more vibrant, long lasting color. They can even be mixed with clear nail polish! I've never tried that tho.

And you can definitely use pigments and eye shadows together!
