embarrasing...BUT...when is it a good idea to douche?

From what I have heard douching is never a good idea because it upsets your bodys natural chemistry and cleansing processes. The body cleans itself, therefore douching is not necessary. As long as you eat healthy, take care of yourself, and use a gentle cleanser daily you should be fine without it.
Douching is old school shit that women were "supposed" to do in my opinion.
I actually just tried it for the first time this morning.. I know the body cleans itself, but between working out, running around after my son, walking around the hospital for clinicals and dancing I just wanted to try something to make me feel more clean besides showering daily. So far so good! The box says it's good to use after your periods and after intercourse with lube etc etc.
As long as you don't do it very often, I'd say douche away!

i douche once a week, usually on my "at home spa" day.

I think it might be ok to use raw apple cider vinegar diluted. It's supposed to balance our normal ph when used as a douche.
The regular store bought douches are bad for you though because of the other crap they put in the liquid.
I've tried it before and it didn't make any damn difference in anything. What's the point of it again?

"Is Douching Healthy?
Simply stated, the answer is "No."
According to a study published by the American Journal of Public Health, douching may reduce a woman's chance of becoming pregnant during a particular month by approximately thirty percent.
Regular vaginal douching changes the delicate chemical balance of the vagina and can make a woman more susceptible to infections. Douching can introduce new bacteria into the vagina which can spread up through the cervix, uterus, and fallopian tubes. Researchers have found that women who douche regularly experience more vaginal irritations and infections such as bacterial vaginosis, and an increased number of sexually transmitted diseases.
Furthermore, regular users of vaginal douches face a 73% greater risk of developing pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) -- a chronic condition that can lead to infertility, or even death, if left untreated. Bacterial vaginosis and PID can have serious adverse affects on pregnancy including infections in the baby, labor problems, and preterm delivery.
For these reasons, douching is no longer recommended as a safe or healthy way to routinely clean the vagina. The only safe and healthy way to clean the vagina is to let the vagina clean itself. The delicate chemical balance of the vagina is very sensitive and easily disrupted by routine vaginal douching. "
Any other lingering 'buts', read this please:

IF i feel an 'unclean' feeling I rinse with water and water only, either standing at the bathroom sink, or squatting at the bathtub faucet, or just plain taking a bath.
Specifically: in a warm bath, 1st thing with perfectly clean water, I lay back, and kinda suck in my stomach so that water flows in. Sometime I might have to help open it to get this to work, or pull on my tummy skin to draw it in. Then I push it all out. You can see everything that came out. Thats all you need, maybe once more. I do this when Im on my period sometimes; it makes me feel cleaner after having tampons in all day.
Maybe its not the best thing to do, but I do it really infrequently and i guarantee that its a lot better for you than the storebought douches because its just water, and really what else do you need?

I admit it, I do it.
TMI....but what the hell:
Back when I was on birth control, my bf came in me on several occasions, and I HATED the way it felt/smelled after he did. Douching was the only thing that made me feel "clean" again.
I still do it once in a while. It feels sooo clean.
I always use the stuff from the stores, but maybe I need to try something else after reading this thread.
Well what is considered "regular" douching? I don't think I'd ever do it more than once a month. Another question I have is all the scents they have, there was one that was just called vinegar and water.. Wouldn't that make your vag stink?
You shouldn't douche period. Not every other week, not once a week, not once a year. Never. PLEASE read the FAQ link I posted.
^ i agree, douching is not necessary or recommended
The only time I ever douche is before a b/g shoot. It's kind of required(not really...but HIGHLY encouraged)

There are many stereotypes about the industry that I work in. Sometimes they can be true but human beings are very diverse creatures and cannot be pigeon-holed into one category.
Some of the most effortlessly beautiful, kind, intelligent, successful, motivated, driven and ridiculously hilarious women that I have ever met have been dancers. I've met the best friends that I've ever had in this industry.
