Default any NY clubs that don't issue 1099?

Right now I dance in north NJ and the club doesn't send the dancers any 1099s. I wanted to try a NY club, maybe Lace in Nanuet or Stilletos in Nyack but I only dance one day a week and I file taxes from my other job so I want to avoid any 1099. Does anyone know of any NY clubs that don't issue 1099s to their dancers? Any info would be helpful. Mucho thanks in advance!

Uh oh.... avoiding the IRS? The answer is that no big club in Manhattan will be 1099 free. They are too worried about their own asses to let girls skate by sans taxes.

    You may wanna aim low.

Lace in Nyack doesn't 1099, so I am going to assume (don't quote me though, I've never worked at stiletto) that Stiletto doesn't either since it's the same owners...

All of the Manhattan clubs 1099. The clubs in the boroughs don't 1099 but the earning/work conditions are less imo...

oops... I guess I made a pretty bad first impression. Sorry.

I have no problem with paying taxes, I file every year... It's not really about the taxes so much as that I've only been dancing for 2 weeks and I've not told ANYONE about it yet. I think I'm uber paranoid about any "paper trail" that might out me before I'm ready. Especially since I don't know if I'm going to keep dancing. I would rather it be my own personal secret and not have it documented anywhere.

Thanks to everyone who responded with some advice. I really appreciate it. I'm just trying to experiment under the radar. It's hard enough without all the worrying about people finding out about me. Now that I've tried it, I have so much respect for dancers. I truly SUCK right now. I know it's pathetic to quit after only a couple weeks, so I will try to hang in there for a little longer. And thank GOD for this site!!

That's nice that you like the site and appreciate dancers. However, you have just shown this site a great deal of disrespect asking tax-paying professionals how to avoid paying something that we all pay for.

If you don't want a paper trail and like dancing, go dance in a nightclub, be a go-go dancer, whatever. Its a job, not a fun little secret. Act like an adult.

Besides, even if they don't issue 1099, most clubs ask for driver's license and social security card. So if the club gets busted or audited, you are traceable. Then you'll owe backtaxes that the IRS decides you owe.

So....if you're going to dance UTR, just do it with a fakeID and SSN to begin with. Again, illegal and unethical, but that's really the only way it can't get back to you.

Oh, and final thing......no one sees your taxes except for you, your CPA (if applicable), and Uncle Sam. Why are you so concerned? Your employer won't know.

Clubs don't issue 1099's from "Nudie Bar, Inc." usually it's another corporation that sounds nothing like a strip club. Really like "Griffin Enterprises" or some other non-descript name. At least that has been my experience in NYC.

Plus you can always say that you were a waitress at a club.

Before I started dancing I had to weigh the pro's and con's. I wanted to run the worst case scenarios through my head and see if I was able to be okay with the ramifications.
Would I be alright if my dad wandered into my club while I was on stage?
Would I be alright if my entire economics class walked into the middle of my stage set?
Would I be okay if my club got raided and I was arrested on some BS charge?
Would I be okay if my neighbors knew why I was coming home at 4am?
Would I be okay if my past/present/future boyfriends knew what I did?

    Etc...

The truth is, while some of those scenarios are really undesirable, they are a real possibility. People find out. You have to decide if it is worth it for you.

not intending to sidetrack this thread, but ... in New York state, and particularly in New York City, you have far more 'aggressive' tax people to worry about than the IRS. Both the state and the city impose an income tax of their own. New York City's tax agency can be VERY agressive when they smell easy money ... and lately they have been doing a lot of digging into strip club finances as a result of the Scores tax fraud case. I don't mean to unnecessarily scare anybody, but it's getting to the point of being damn near impossible to 'fly below the radar' in New York City anymore.
