I saw a commercial today that if some bill was passed over 500 wolves would be gunned down in the rockies! wtf?! I can't remember the website it said to go t though for more information...has anybody heard anything like this? It makes me angry.

if there is an overpopulation of them it is probably needed as a wildlife management tool.
Bills are created in Congress.
Congress is controlled by the Democrats.
How is it Bush's fault again? Or are you one of those "Bush is at fault for everything!" people?
If you want to effect change, know who your enemies are.

It's probably because of declining elk populations and elk hunting is big $$$$$ in those parts. Still, without knowing too much about it as long as wolves aren't listed on the endangered species list I don't see how issuing a set number of tags is any different than tags for other species: elk, big horn sheep, moose, deer etc. I don't think there will be a random free-for-all "gunning down" of wolves.

Help Save Gray Wolves In Northern Rocky Mountain States From Massacre
January 17, 2007 : 12:00 AM
Governor Otter, a former rancher, announced to the hunters, “I’m prepared to bid for that first ticket to shoot a wolf myself.”
In the coming weeks the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service is expected to delist or remove Northern Rocky Mountain gray wolves from the list of endangered species. Until now the gray wolves have been declared an endangered species under the Endangered Species Act, 16 USCS §§ 1531, 1533 .
P.S. Online research indicates that the period for the public to comment on the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services proposal to delist the gray wolf in the northern Rocky Mountain states was reopened on July 6, 2007. All comments on the proposed delisting were due by August 6, 2007.
Wyoming wants wolves to be delisted Federally so that they can reduce the number of wolves that they believe threaten livestock. Then Wyoming would take steps to bring the wolf population down to the minimum.
I like wolves and am not in favor of this, but there is more than one side to the story. And Bush has nothing to do with this specific legislation. It's at the state level. The thread heading isn't justified.
Edit: Budai beat me to it. I see Wyoming's not the only one in the effort.
Understood, Taylorlila. I guess the simple answer is, "No, but the states are trying to."
Including some horrible people in Alaska who want to permit helicopter wolf hunting i.e. shooting wolves from helicopters. How sporting !
Wolves are beautiful animals and grossly misunderstood. A healthy wolf population means a healthy game population because wolves pick off the sick, weak and lame members of caribou and elk herds.
LEAVE the WOLFIES ALONE !
