    Default Lipo Dissolve

Has anyone had, or thought of having, this relatively new procedure?

Lipo Dissolve is being marketed as an alternative to liposuction- and also as a way to help fix botched liposuction procedures. It's a series of injections to your problem areas that kill the fat cells in the area (using two main chemicals), making it more difficult to gain weight there.

Google it for more info. There is some pretty scary stuff out there- I guess the procedure was banned in Brazil because it was being done too casually at gyms and health spas (!!!) by people who weren't properly trained. If this stuff is injected into your muscle tissue, it will kill that, too. Yikes. That made me think of all the horror stories I read about people getting Botox in the back of vans in Mexico. No joke.

After thinking about it for a year, researching it and visiting the only local facility that provides it, I decided to go for it. I eat right 80% of the time and workout 5-6 days a week, yet have been haunted by nasty saddlebags since I was 13. Even at my skinniest, they never go away. And this place is very legit with great doctors and patients who have had excellent results.

I have had three of six treatments, and so far so good. It's definitely something to think about ONLY after diet and exercise fail, because it's not cheap and it's not easy. And even though it's much cheaper than lipo, the results aren't nearly as dramatic- you focus on one small area rather that sucking out fat from a lot of areas.

Anyway, if anyone is thinking about having this done, I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have or trade stories with anyone who has done it.

This is not to be confused with meotherapy, a treatment involving injections to help rid your butt and legs of cellulite. While loss of appearance of cellulite can occur, these injections actually kill the fat cells.

Hi, thanks for the post. I have thought about this. I had AmeriSmooth done at American Laser Centers. I would NOT recommend this. It did nothing. I had it done on the front and back thighs as well as butt. I was a complete waste of money, and seemed to create spider veins which I went to another doctor for removal. It was a waste of money and created other problems. I have been to many doctors, clinics. A very good doctor told me that these procedures are fairly new, and that I should wait until they are tried more and perfected. Cellulite is hard to treat even with liposcution. Girls don't like to admit that they have had this done, but from the lipo I have seen, it has not completely disappeared. How have the injections worked for you?

At this point I don't have any before and after photos, but I definitely intend to post them when I'm done with my sessions.

Around here, treatment costs $400 a session, or six for $2,000. Depending on how much fat is in the area, you may only need two sessions or you may need up to six. The nurse that I had my consultation with had her lovehandles done and they looked great after three sessions. I went ahead and bought six. I have heard of Lipo Dissolve costing up to $1500 per treatment- but that's usually when it's combined with mesotherapy or something else.

I noticed a difference after the 2nd treatment. You're really swollen and bruised for about four days- but after the swelling went down the last time, my outer thighs were noticeably smaller and more smooth. I'm really excited because I still have three sessions left (just had my third done Monday) and can already see improvements to the area.

Two girls at my work had this done and the one I talk to loves it. She is going to get me the name of her doctor. I would try it, I believe that with every surgery you take the risk or something going wrong so things can go wrong...I understand that.

^True, but it's like an elective thingy you do to your body, like say injecting steroids, you could get crazy good results, but some guys turn into raging dickheads. Me, I'm willing to take the risk! I just need someone to hold me down and cover my eyes when I see the needle.

I think alot of this depends where you get it done at - I looked into it and found numerous complaints on the non - plastic surgeon centers around the country. They can mix a variety of cocktails together and label it as lipo dissolve...I would be interested in knowing exactly which ones really work

but it's not almost the same price....not even close!

I read more about this on the lipo boards. There are mixed reviews. I've heard a few incidents of rippling and dimpling and people are basically saying get smartlipo or regualr lipo.

poo...I was all excited there for awhile. I don't imagine many p.s.'s would do it because it would take money away from their lipo procedures. I want some kind of lipo done on my lower stomach pooch. I'm waiting for the miracle cure.

From what I've read about it, for 95% of the people who have it done properly (5% don't respond at all, apparently) it can work quite well for for small localized areas of fat. It's not intended as an all-over body procedure. Because it isn't FDA approved, lipo dissolve is in a grey area of aesthetic medicine right now and there are a lot of people injecting it who shouldn't be. If it's not injected to the right depth, it can cause skin necrosis (aka, skin death). Yikes.

    There's one clinic I found:

They seem to be pretty upfront with info about risks and complications, etc. and they say they take a cautious approach to injecting (only one treatment area at a time). I don't know if they're any good, but I like that they're more candid than other websites I've seen advertising lipo dissolve.

Lipodissolve uses a drug called phosphotidyl choline to dissolve fat. It is currently a grey area in plastic surgery ....our national society hasn't endorsed it. Not that that means it doesn't work. Couple things to keep in mind (from a doc who doesn't do it...)

    1. It doesn't replace lipo...it really is a limited procedure with limited downtime and limited improvement. Not NO improvement, just limited

    2. The drugs in the cocktail aren't FDA controlled. It up to the doc to formulate the stuff he/she is injecting. A little scary

    3. Its a setup for quacks to get involved in. A lot of family docs are going to take the weekend course and hang up a sign...be sure to go to a real life board certified plastic surgeon who can at least tell you if you are going to see a benefit.

    My two cents.

Haha.... I just don't look at the needles! Fortunately, with my fat areas being where they are, I never have to see them give the injections. I hate needles!

I forgot to mention that no, the procedure isn't FDA approved. This wasn't a huge issue for me because it's a fairly new procedure and, without getting too lengthy- I don't have a ton of faith in the FDA anyway. =/

This definitely isn't too good to be true- there is a lot of swelling and discomfort and there are definitely risks. If you have a lot of excess fat removed, just get liposuction. I am just happy to see my saddlebags shrinking- diet and exercise take care of the rest.

So is this working for you? I'm seriously considering getting this done next week. The medspa that I've gone to for restylane and IPL offers this, and I feel comfortable with the doctor. She warned me that I would be swollen and painful for a few days. It would cost $200 for each session ($50/syringe with 4 needed). It would probably take 3 sessions for the desired results, but that isn't a guarantee because different patients respond differently.

Can you give us an update? How many days before you can go into work? Is it worth it? I really think I'm gonna go for it, but I'd hate to go through all that and not notice a difference.

It's definitely working- but it's not easy!

After my third treatment, I waited for 4 weeks before my 4th (which I had last week). After two weeks, the swelling was down and I could definitely see a difference. This made me very happy because I was only halfway done and could already notice a difference- I had some monster saddlebags! Unfortunately, summer ended and the cold weather made me lazy. I gained 7 pounds which I'm now working to lose- but none of that weight was in the treatment area! I just got fat in other places.

As far as downtime.... I usually get my shots on a Monday and go back to work the following Thursday, so a week and a half. You're really swollen for three or four days... it's a little painful and you definitely can't work. I just wait until the swelling is gone and the bruising is under control. The lights of the club hide bruising pretty well, though.

Is it a miracle treatment? No way. Has it worked for me? Absolutely. No regrets! Just make sure the place is legit! It sounds like you picked a good doctor, though. PM me if you have anymore questions.

Oh, it's not as bad as it sounds! I tend to gain weight in my saddlebags first, followed by the rest of my lower half. With the recent weight gain, I just noticed more love handles and chubbier inner thighs. My outer thighs remained the same, which was nice!
