It feels like every muscle in my neck and upper back/ shoulder area has been pulled apart from my horse fall yesterday. Basically I hit the ground on my head, and my body flipped over by way of the neck, upper back. I felt it kind of rip painfully when it happened, but I got up fine. Thank god I decided to wear a helmet yesterday!
Anyway, I want to go back out again tomorrow to correct this psychotic behaviour, but I'm so fucking sore all over. I can deal with it on the legs, arms, chest and back...but my neck, I don't know. I can't look to the sides that well, and it really hurts to touch it even...like when lymph nodes are swollen and it's just sore?
I guess I'm just wondering if it's silly to get right back into the game with this kind of injury. My concern is that I might fall again, and hit the same way, god forbid (it was a horribly frightening way to fall...I usually land on my back or butt, which I did the second time I fell yesterday...actually, I usually don't fall at all, but now I'm riding young crazy horses, it goes with the territory). It's so sore, I don't want to rip it or anything. But it's not wise to let the horse go unworked after such dangerous behaviour.
So anyone know what's ok and what's not with neck strains? What kind of meds are best? Advil never works for me...would icing help? What kind of ligaments are in the neck?
Thanks!
