I didn't know whether to post this here or in the "political poo" section. Question is, do you think all Americans should be provided with free healthcare? If so, how will it be paid for? What about a sliding scale or discount?

Nothing is free. "Free healthcare" would be impossible.
Maybe I should rephrase that. What do we do to help Americans who don't have insurance?
I think all Americans should have access to healthcare at an affordable rate.
A sliding scale.
I haven't had healthcare since I turned 18. I have seen a dentist once since then. My teeth look nice, but they are a mess. I have lost fillings, terrible cavities...I had my retainer in from my braces until just last year, because I lost insurance before my orthodontist work was complete. That was the only time I have ever seen a dentist. Becasue a cavity was so bad I had the tooth pulled because I couldn't afford the filling, and while he was in there, he pulled off my retainer for free.
All hospital visits I've had have been turned into collection agencies and never paid. I have well over 30grand in unpaid medical bills. Including a surgery to remove a lump in my neck. The only healthcare I recieve is my yearly annual gyn exam, because it's pretty affordable, and because I've had parts of my cervix removed in the past due to dysplasia. I gotta keep up on my girly health.
I'ev looked into healthcare, but $400 a month is not affordable, and my income is way to high for welfare. I firmly believe there needs to be a program for thoes "in between" people.
The ones who make more than poverty guidlines, but still can't afford insurance on their own.
I would love a sliding scale for health insurance.
Yes. The government uses our tax dollars to fund wars and bail out companies that make unscrupulous home loans. Nothing is free, but I'd rather them be forced to spend the money on something that directly benefits us, not their political agendas.
Why does it have you cost $400/month sweets? Have you looked into a major medical (aka catastrophic) health coverage with an attached HSA you can save into monthly that has tax benefits?
Also, when I didn't have dental, I called around dentists until I found one willing to work with me for a significantly reduced rate. I paid them in cash. Funny thing, dentist office is super Christian, with religious stuff and music everywhere.
I don't have an insurance license in Nevada, but here is a company I broker with in Texas, they have very good options:

Check them out, you can also learn more about HSA. For most of my clients around your age, they pay probably $100/mo. for the major medical, and calculate other costs for their monthly savings (allergry meds, birthcontrol, annual PP exam, etc....) That money grows tax-deferred, and you don't have to pay taxes on anything qualified medical expenses. They give you a debit card to use for it, very neat and easy to track.

Do you set it up with your insurance, a broker or your bank?
Thanks Katrine!
There is no such thing as free healthcare. You mean should all Americans get healthcare provided by the government, and the answer is no, that's a bad idea.
I don't understand why us americans feel such a sense of entlitlement to have things handed to us. If the health care you have is not desiarable or not enough i quess you have work harder or find anthor way it might be harder but i don't feel the goverment owes me anything my husband and I make our own way.
Your welcome. Actually, I am thinking of making a seperate thread for this, since its something that could benefit most people. You can apply for it yourself directly through assurant.
Some more info:http://www.assuranthealth.com/corp/a...ans/SEHSAs.htm
BTW, I'm not trying to pimp out Assurant over any other healthcare provider. I primarily go through them, and when they are not affordable to my client, send it off to full-time health insurance broker.
Try out a quote online. YOU determine how much per month you put into the HSA, which is pretty flexible (I believe)

Here's another place, to be fair:

FINALLY...in Nevada, with your business license, you MIGHT be able to get small business health insurance. I don't know though, as I do not have a NV insurance license and its not worth it for me to pay for one unless I could get a significant amount of business from it. Might be worth looking into.
PM me if you have any additional, personal questions. I hope this was helpful!

Carrier=United Healthcare (my employer uses them and they are decent)
$1,850 deductible (not bad at all)
After deductible, it covers all medical, prescriptions, even mental health ($50 per visit).
So...one can easily start an HSA and either lump $1,850 into it after a couple of nights of work, or save into it monthly through a bank draft. The HSA can actually be invested into mutual funds, as the owner sees fit, or just acrrue interest as a money market.
• You get a tax deduction on the money you put in your HSA.
• Your dollars can grow tax-deferred.
• You spend the savings tax-free to help pay your deductible or for qualified medical care (including
prescriptions, vision, or dental care).
• What you don’t use in your account will continue to accumulate year after year. Then, if you ever need it for
health care expenses, the money will be there.
• At Golden Rule, you’ll also earn interest on your savings,
beginning with the first dollar deposited.
Monthly cost, $127.84. There should be NO reason why everyone on this site uninsured shouldn't at least run a few comparison quotes and apply!
Again, I make ZERO money off of this, I just understand the important of good coverage! I've paid out my ass before being uninsured and badly underinsured for my health.

plenty of people die waiting or because the GOVERNMENT won't pay for a procedure in countries with more socialised healthcare, but that never gets mentioned when people want america to emulate countries with smaller, more homogeneous populations in healthcare dispensal.
