ive had my first shot out of 3.
How have the side effects been so far? Any at all? I really am pondering getting it.

well i'll be totally honest and say i did no research on it before i got it. my doctor said it was on the list of things i needed when i went for a physical this summer, so i got it. i didnt see any reason not to. i had a tetnus shot at the same time and in the same arm, so i dont know if the extreme pain i had was from the hpv vaccine or the tetnus. my arm was killing me for the first day and still in tons of pain for at least 2 more days after. like to the point that i didnt want to lift my arm. i didnt work or anything, dancing wouldve been impossible. other than that, i had no side effects.
now i have that stupid commercial stuck in my head. i wanna be one less one less. thanks. a. lot.
I think it's a government conspiracy to make women sterile so we won't perpetuate the overpopulation problem. All my friends who have gotten it have had really bad side effects that lasted at least a week after getting the initial first shot. Plus, it's mandatory for girls in grade school to get it- girls in grade school!!! MANDATORY STD VACCINE??? It doesn't make sense. It hasn't been out for that long and already they're doing tons of advertising on it, no one knows the long-term side effects!!! Don't do it! Just practice safer sex and get tested regularly, that's all you need to do!!

^i very much disagree. it is never a REQUIREMENT to get a vaccine for school. you do not HAVE to do it, period. and i do think that young girls should get it because girls are having sex younger and younger these days. thats just my opinion though. like i said, i had no side effects except my arm being in pain, which was most likely from my tetnus shot.
okay, it's not mandatory YET. but it's likely that it's going to be.

And you know, a man with an STD will never rape you. And 12 year olds? Not having sex. NOPE. Don't believe the news, that's all propaganda for the evil government trying to take your babies away too.
I was raped at 7 years old and got HPV from my rapist. At 16, during my first pap smear I discovered I had cancer. I now cannot have children of my own. If you think the shot is going to make women sterile, try actually getting the disease!
Besides, the shot was discovered by a man at my local university - in Australia. I highly doubt he corroborated with your evil conspiracy theory in America. He has his own cancer research centre and everything here.

It's NEVER mandatory even when it's "mandated." That is utter misinformation.
All that would be required of parents who don't want their children to be vaccinated is to SIGN A FORM. However, making the vaccine "mandated" requires that states make it available at an affordable cost, even to those who don't have health insurance. There is NOTHING negative that comes from this.
By the way, STD vaccine or not, 80% of women have had one or more forms of HPV by the age of 50 and the numbers of women acquiring it are spreading like wildfire. And traces of the HPV virus have also recently been found under people's FINGERNAILS. Thus, it might not only be sexually transmitted.
I have all the information on the vaccine on file if you'd like it.
Trust me, better to get the vaccine than to lose your cervix/other reproductive organs and potentially b sterile like I am now, or worse, to actually GET cervical cancer.
yeah but the fact that you have to find a reason to get out of it is a violation of our freedom is it not? We shouldn't have to find reasons and file paperwork to get out of getting a vaccine to enter into public school.
Can't have freedom without life.
And your argument fits the snowball fallacy, by the way. You can't get out of a hospital without signing a form. You can't get into a school without signing loads of forms. You can't work at a job without signing forms. Are those all violations of our freedom?
What's more important? Parents having to waste five minutes of their time to walk into an office and sign a form? Or parents losing children because they couldn't afford to have them vaccinated or just plain didn't know any better?
Im totally unvaccinated, so are my entire family. Ive never even had a tetanus shot. I wont be getting this one either and since its still in its experimental stages I think its fair enough to be cautious.
Alternative info links.
Edited to ad - yes there have been reported side effects, although same goes with all medications.
The vaccine doesnt offer protection against all strains of HPV, just a couple and not all cervical cancer is caused by HPV anyway.

And in almost all states in the USA children dont have to be vaccinated to enter school - there is exemption.
Same goes for all states in Australia.

i've had two out of the three shots and have had no side effects. i'm 23 years old and the vaccine is recommended up until age 26.

I don't think the American government wants to sterilize Americans. Economically, it doesn't make sense. From the govt's standpoint, you need the taxes collected from a replacement workforce to support retirees, as well as the sheer productivity/ buying power of the workforce to drive the American economy. If the next generation is smaller than the current one, the system collapses. And I don't just mean social security... I mean manufacturing and purchasing. For better or for worse, America isn't looking to downsize. I mean, maybe we should for the sake of the earth and all, but environmentalism has never been a top priority of the government's. Sorry, I don't buy it.

^Exactly. Someone needs to take off her tinfoil hat.
I'd like to get it once I have insurance.
The pain was probably caused by the tetanus shot. I havn't had one in way over 10 years and I'm scared, because I remember how painful it was.
I'm too old for Guardasil, but I am for it. Coming from a place with very poor healthcare, my parents didn't want me to be sick and in hospital for months like they were growing up. So I've always believed in taking advantage of technological innovation to improve our chances for survival.

i have had 2/3. i did not have any side effects. LOL@ tinfoil hat.
Love it!

ok, look at those first 2 reasons. 1 being that it decreases your chances of cancer, not eliminates them. ok, well i'd still rather have a lower chance. second, they say that the numbers are down anyway. ok, so great, my chance is lowered AND im getting a vaccine that lowers the chance even more. those are not bad things...
that doesn't apply at all because girls are having sex younger and younger. so teenage daughters ARE at risk. but even if theyre not.. if there is a chance they can benefit in the future, why not do it? my moms best friend had her daughter get the shots and shes in 7th grade. shes sure as hell not having sex, i can say this for a fact, but she will one day.So Merck wants parents to have their pre-teen and teenage daughters vaccinated. But if current trends continue, by the time these girls are old enough to be at risk, how big will the risk really be?
So if you're over 26 you shouldn't bother? What if you don't have it?
I am tempted to get it but it's like $500 in Canada...I don't dance. Yet.

it actually takes less time to fill out the part that says "i'm not vaccinating my kids" than it does to actually fill out vaccine form itself....all ya gotta do is check the square and sign your name vs filling out every little vaccine, with every date given, lol
fortuanatly, i don't have to deal with this yet. my daughter is 3. so at least we'll be seeing some possible effects of it by the time i would consider her having it. but then again, i may not have her get it either. its just too new to decide right now.
