    Default Accolate or papaverine reduce risk of capsular contracture

    Ok, BOOBIES BOOBIES BOOBIES!!! I have been researching boobies all night. One of my biggest concerns is the risk of capsular contracture.

    Apparently certain vasodilators (which relax smooth muscles) like Papaverine and Accolate (an anti-inflammatory medication usually used to treat asthma)may prevent or even reduce pre-existing capsular contracture!!!

    But there haven't been enough conclusive studies for the FDA to approve prescription of these medications for this purpose.

    I know, I know vitamin E and garlic supplements (no conclusive evidence about these either, though, btw) but I am going to do everything I can to take care of my body and make sure my implants turn out well.

    Man- I SO need to talk to my doctor about this... scheduling BA consultations this week.

    WOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Dear Lucky;
    Bad news and good news.

    The bad news is few plastic surgeons remain convinced that Accolate (or more commonly Singulair) do anything to decrease capsular contracture. Accolate also has some nasty potential side effects and liver enzymes must be monitored while you're on it.

    The good news is capsular contracture is a RELATIVELY rare event. With submuscular implants the risk is about 5% which really isn't too bad...all things considered.

    Just wanted you to get the facts.

    Good luck
