I never worked there, but interviewed and got hired. It's a waste of time imo. I've gone in since to buy dancer shoes and the girls always look bored and desperate.

Likewow's reveiw is right on the money from when I worked there this spring. I actually made really good money there for a couple weeks. The owners girlfriend is a dancer there and is drop dead gorgeous, looks like a porn star. She has lots of regulars and was away when I started so I got her schedual. Once she came back I was put on nights, when it was very, very slow to begin with, and then selling shows is nearly impossible. They actually waived my $50 house fee the one night I made nothing, but there were gils there that had running tabs. It helped me get my feet wet to start dancing in clubs, but thats about it. There really isn't much money to be made there, the managments strict. You can't do amateur night or work at any other clubs. You can't associate with co-workers outside of work. If you quit, you get banned from the place.

This is a very strange place to work. For starters, it's a peepshow, not a club. What makes Leather and Lace really unique is that the show is done over closed-circuit television, not directly behind glass like a traditional peepshow. It used to be directly behind glass until the town shut them down a few years ago. They fought hard to stay open and ended up with this compromise, but it's not really the same for either the customers or the dancers. There are at most two dancers on at a time. On the slow days there will be only one girl, which doesn't give customers a lot of options and is extremely boring for the dancer. L&L is actually a porn shop. In addition to the peepshow there are video booths with glory holes. As a result, a good 50% of the customers who walk through the doors are gay and walk right past the dancers, uninterested. The shifts run 9AM-5PM and 5PM-close (midnight Sunday-Wednesday, 1 AM Thursday-Saturday.) For those 7-8 hours you sit on a couch, alone or with another girl, and wait for customers to approach you for a show. Dancers are encouraged to get up and ask customers if they are interested in a private show, but you very rarely get any business that way. Most customers know about the shows and will ask if they are interested. In the seven months that I worked at L&L I kept a spreadsheet detailing my results every day. I averaged 6-7 shows a day. That's less than one show an hour. The shows themselves average less than 10 minutes, so you are sitting around bored for most of the day. As far as the shows themselves go, it can be a lot more fun than working at a club. When you get a show you go into a room in a completely different part of the building. It is basically like doing a webcam show - you can use toys, fingers, etc. The prices for the shows range from $10-100, depending on what kind of show you do. My per-show average was $31, so you can see that most people don't choose a more expensive show. The most popular shows are a $20 nude or $40 finger show. The only reason men go here instead of to a strip club is that they are allowed (and, in fact, encouraged to) jerk off in the booths. As a result you get a completely different crowd than you do at a club. There is very little crossover. It is a niche market, but at the end of the day the majority of men prefer to see a real live girl in front of them, not on a TV screen. There are some VERY strange rules here. For example, you are not allowed to be friends with co-workers and associate outside of work unless you were friends beforehand. If management discovers that you have been hanging out outside of work with a co-worker you will be fired immediately. Also, when someone is fired for any reason their name is not to be mentioned. Dancers are not allowed to do amateur nights ANYWHERE, and mention of other clubs, even in passing, is forbidden. If customers ask about any of the nearby clubs, dancers are to deny knowledge of their existence. Yes, it's quite strange. There is no physical contact with customers at any time, not even to shake hands. Dancers are not allowed to have any sort of casual conversation with customers while on the floor. You just ask them if they know about the shows and if they would like a show and that is the end of it. The result is a sterile and unpleasant environment for both the dancers and the customers. As far as the dancers go, everyone is great to work with. However, everyone talks about each other behind their backs and it can get pretty brutal, but for the most part girls are nice to each other's faces because they have to sit next to each other for eight hours a day. Probably the extreme gossipiness is to be expected when there are only five or six girls working there total. When I was there there were a couple of really gorgeous girls but also a couple of total dogs. Bottom line is that management is desperate for new dancers and will hire anyone who walks in. Unless you screw up, you will never be fired, even if you are not making any money. Tip-out is $30/shift if there is another girl on and $60 if you are working alone. There is NO leniency here. If management doesn't want you around you will find your shifts decreasing and you may even be completely cut from the schedule, but you will not be told outright that you are fired. This happened to one girl while I was there, a BBW. There is not enough business here to have a BBW working, and she was allowed to run up hundreds of dollars in debt to L&L since she could never make tip-out. There are some definite positives about working here. They are very strict on drugs, and none of the girls do drugs at work or come to work high or drunk. There is no contact at any time, and the impersonal nature of the shows make it a safe way to ease into the world of stripping. There are no extras here and no opportunity to perform extras even if you wanted to. The shifts are long, but since you are sitting on a couch all day you save a lot of wear and tear on your legs and you'll go home with some energy left. If you are not a hustler and hate making small talk with customers this is a great alternative since you aren't even allowed to do that here. L&L was the first place I worked and for me it was a good stepping stone. I would not recommend it to any experienced dancers. You won't make nearly as much money as you can in a real club. I started in the summer and my average over seven months was $210/shift. My low was $10 and my high was $675. I am already averaging more than that in the dead of winter working at an actual club 10 minutes down the road. I was also doing a lot better there than most of the other girls. The last few months I was there (during the winter) there was one girl who went home owing money every other night. She was making less than $200/week while working 40 hours. There's just so little business that if you aren't an 8+ you have no chance. One final word for anyone who does decide to give L&L a try: don't bother giving notice when you decide to quit. Every time a girl would quit while I was there management would bitch about how girls never gave notice and screwed them over, and then the former dancers would be banned from the property. When I decided to leave I gave a week's notice. I was very polite about it. The next day I received a phone call a few hours before I was supposed to go in for my shift, telling me that I had been taken off the schedule and to come pick up my remaining things. In other words, "You can't quit because you're fired!" Giving notice cost me $800-1000, since I then had no work for the week. Bottom line: if you can get past the mind games and nonstop power trips, it's an interesting way to get started in the business.
