No Money in Syracuse
First of all, I want to say this on behalf of all Syracuse clubs, not just this particular one. You will not make money in Syracuse. Probably the reason why there have been no updates for years in this section is that no dancer in their right mind would want to work in this city. There is also a reason why most of NY’s population surrounds the NYC area. You might be thinking to yourself “But wait! I’m hot. I have a solid hustle. Small, dead clubs have never stopped me from making money in the past.” Believe me, I thought this too and it doesn't matter whether you are hot and have a solid hustle. You will not make good money in any of these clubs, even on a weekend night. You probably won’t make more than $3-400 on a weekend night (if you even make that) and money is very inconsistent.
Now about this club. The club is located in a dodgier part of the city, but nothing that made me feel threatened or anything. There some parking behind the club, but there is more parking in a gravel lot across the street. It's a neighborhood dive, but not really so much as a dirty, burn your clothes off kind of dive (well maybe a little) but small, kind of dingy, and dark. Has the look that it hasn't been remodeled in several years. While not really a biker bar, I've noticed bikers seem to frequent there.
First the club is a 'low hustle' type of club, you get your money from a combination of stage and dances. While there are 'rooms', they're more like curtained off sections of the bar where you do your dances on dilapidated old couches. There are no private rooms whatsoever and I believe extras are not tolerated. Management is very chill and seem like they care about the girls, rules are lax. It is unfortunate there is no money because I really liked the management.
They have day shift and night shift, and I think night shift technically starts at 7. The club closes at 3 on weekdays and 4 on weekends. You have the option to be paid like a waitress or be off the book. A typical night shift starts like this: you get to the club at 7 and wait at the bar for hours for any customers to come in. They usually came in past midnight, after drinking at other bars or if bars in the area closed. The owner wants night shift girls to get there at 7 PM, which makes me lol since the club is routinely dead from that time until midnight. So generally, long shifts with a lot of waiting.
Rules are pretty lax. As far as I saw there is no crazy schedule requirement, but it might have been something for me because I was an out of towner. There are no bullshit fines, dress code is whatever, and a really low house fee ($10). Tattoos are acceptable. They don't have anything against hiring black girls as far as I could tell. As per NYS law the club is fully nude so it can't serve alcohol. Nudity is mandatory on stage and I think optional in dances. They don't have a kitchen so you'd have to bring your own food or order takeout.
No licensing is required to dance in Syracuse and auditions are done every Monday night during their 'amateur' night. The club advertises that the winner of amateur night will receive $300, but they will not pay you any prize money if there are not a lot of people there.
Set up of the club: they have a bar, then the stage with seats around it, and the curtained off dance areas. The one pole spins, another one a plastic/PVC thing. $10 goes to the house and a minimum of $5 goes to DJ. On weekends there is a lapdance room guy and a minimum of $5 goes out to him (he doesn't do anything). These tipouts normally wouldn't sound bad at all. Now here’s the bad part: A single dance costs $22 (half goes to the club) and a 15 minute dance costs a whopping $80 ($50 goes to dancer). So not only are the room prices lower than average compared to clubs in other cities, they take half of ALL your dances and a little under half of any extended dance booths done. Also the name of the game is to sit at the bar for hours. Since they don't serve alcohol they get a late night rush from guys that are out at bars drinking and then go to the strip clubs after 2-3 in the morning. Contact seemed mixed, some guys attempted no contact and some guys expected it, but do NOT let them (especially for low dance prices!!). If you’re going to allow contact, charged extra for it and they should pay.
The guys that frequent the club range from different types, some bikers, truckers, a few old farts, regulars, Upstate NY rednecks, and everything in between. You'll also get a lot of young guys from the colleges with tight budgets. Not much of an urban crowd and most customers are white, but I think this has to do the demographics of the area and not really so much what the club caters to. Whenever there are customers, they’re usually good with tipping the tip rail. Now some of the owner’s friends will frequent the club and some of them think that they’re friends with the dancers. So you’ll get a lot of time wasters. It’s also confusing because some of these guys will run up and down the stairs since the owner’s office is located on the second floor next to the DR. This is confusing, if not invasive IMO since these guys will see girls sitting around in the DR and will sometimes talk to them.
The girls were okay. Mostly whites, a few blacks. They looked pretty 'normal' as in the club isn't known for being an 'urban hip hop' club or an 'alt girl' club. Different body types, no one to any extremes. No one looked like crackheads or obese or anything. The dressing room is located up really old, uneven stairs and the DR seem to have 'seating areas' that belong to some girls, I'm guessing girls that have been there for a while. You can even see their names written on the mirrors in front of these areas. I have no idea what happens if I sat in one of these areas, but try to get ready at home anyway because the DR isn't the cleanest place, not a whole lot of space, plus the DR chairs are old with holes in them. If you’re going to sit on any of those chairs, bring a towel to cover them up.
From talking to the local girls, the girls who want to make bigger money travel to NYC or PA and I can see why. Girls, please spare yourselves. I feel sorry for you girls who go to SU or have the misfortune to live in a place like Watertown and drive all that way for little money. If you are local and can travel, definitely stay away from Buffalo/Rochester/Syracuse to dance. If you like a shit ton of snow, skiing, or work in healthcare then you might like the city itself as there are a lot of decent hospitals in that city; they've got the university and SUNY Upstate Medical. Otherwise the city’s population is on a steady decline, regular jobs are hard to come by for the locals, and the city itself isn't attractive.
