If you are in Adelaide and only have the time or money to visit one club, make it the Horse. $10 at the door I think, free before 9pm. No real dress code to speak of, but generally a tidy looking crowd. I am not an employee of the company, just a frequent flyer over more than ten years. So listen up. International and Australian feature attractions are a constant, as are transient podium and stage girls from foreign countries if that's your thing. Mostly Canadian features, who genuinely seem to enjoy Aussie guys as customers even more than the local girls do. Large stage with a lot of lighting and a fountain at the end, plus a side and rear podium. Unfortunately this means the seating in the general admission area is often tightly packed and quite cramped during busy times such as Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays prior to a public holiday. This discomfort can be relieved by sneaking away with one of the girls to the VIP Lounge, which is populated with comfortable leather sofas and quite spacious yet private in terms of layout. The announcers are veterans in their field, Darren early in the week really puts in and has a great sense of humour, Lewi later in the week is a master on the mic with a big voice. Actual sound quality varies greatly depending on your seating position, any where forward of about halfway across the room towards the stage and it sounds too loud and distorted, behind the speaker line it is fine. Management are friendly and approachable. Some waiting staff actually spout a LOT of SS, but others are pretty genuine and will hang out talk about whatever to kill time. Tip the waitresses PLEASE! A few dollars per drink ordered will see you well attended to. The dancers are of a high standard of looks and physical presentation in most cases. The level of SS is variable and you can almost avoid it completely if you shop wisely. There exists a $30 table dance, one song, which many girls won't do any more, but it's not bad to get if someone offers to sell you one, full nudity at VERY close range, light to medium contact. Don't touch the girl doing a dance in the public area, they are pretty much required to make a fuss out in the open, and I've seen more than one guys get the glasses slapped off his face. You can interact with the girls on stage by holding out fake greenbacks called Crazy Horse dollars or 'funny money'. Depending on the dancer this will buy you some form of contact. Fairly consistently. Still, not a time to grope. It is also possible to arrange for a special occasion like a birthday, to be hauled up on stage for a more interesting performance up close, but it will always end in you becoming depanted in front of fifty guys. This also occurs at random at the whim of the girl on stage. Sitting up the front provides a great up close experience but can be risky if the girl on stage wants to mess around when you pass over the funny money. Wear boxers. Costumes are first class in Adelaide SCs, as is the dancing ability, especially the big title holders. The girls vary in approach in terms of selling and executing the $50 dances that take place in the VIP room. Very much a case of YMMV. All deliver a fair three songs, so no worries there, and three often stretches to four or five, once again depending on the individual dancer and whether you showered before rocking up. In the VIP room, some seats can be very dark and hard to see, so choose a seat first if the dancer is heading towards a darkened corner. There are exceptions to this rule, but you'll have to visit to find out why. The contact level on the part of the dancer varies from begrudging grinding and air dancing, to some serious gymanastics (you'll be required to help). From girl to girl, it also varies greatly in terms of what they'll touch you with and where, but remember, no touching on your part unless EXPLICITLY invited, which does happen, but keep it on the downlow or you'll both be in trouble. In trying to sell you the dance, most girls are very low in SS content, but friendly and charming nonetheless. Look out for some very intelligent ladies, high in personality, and genuine enough to tell you so at at any time that you start talking nonsense. Don't waste their time, if they approach and you don't fancy a dance with them, you're well served at the Horse to let that be known politely and fast. So in all, a great place to drink in Adelaide, whether in a group or alone.
