Additional Information
I worked at Hooters for all of 4 shifts so some might say my perception is limited. This was mid-July.
The inside of the club is rather classy and intimate (intimate = small). When you first enter you will have to ascend some stairs to reach the main area. One bar, plenty of seating and one unique stage! 8)
It isn't until you go for a lap dance that you find out Hooter's hidden room: the lap dance room.
Whilst there is an ATM upstairs for patrons to withdraw money - it wasn't working for 2 of the shifts I worked so the customer used the eftpos facilities downstairs.
The lap dance area is one room with multiple seats. Rather roomy and comfortable. Good lighting - not too dark so you can't see anything but not so light that you can see too much. ;)
I already knew a few of the dancers who worked there thanks to my dancing days at another club (which I quit March 31st 2004) so I found it easy to get along with them. Otherwise, if you are totally knew, you'll be okay. Two new girls started there when I was working there and I saw how supportive everyone was.. ;D
Okay.. now that I've said all that is to say positive about the place.. here are the negatives (what I found anyway)... :(
It is in a bad location. There is a reason why I know of three other clubs that used to be in the same location over the 2 and half years I've been dancing. That's too high a turnover in one spot (IMHO). It is "out of the way". Think about it: why would you travel to this club (only 5 mins. walk) when you have everything you need for a good night out in the centre of Surfers Paradise (Cavill Ave, Cavill Mall and Orchid Ave): plenty of nightclubs, 4 strip clubs (granted, one is shut down for renovations currently), 24 hour stores, hot dog/drink stands and 24 hour cafes.
It's location does affect how many patrons frequent the place - imo.
This club is a percentage club: 60% dancer /40% club. Granted, this is better than a certain other club which is 55% dancer /44% club... and the dance prices are higher which means you get a higher cut... but is near impossible to make over $400 or even $300 for one night.
Try to up-sell a $50 10 min dance to a $100 25 min dance. Yes, you are dancing for longer but your cut goes from $30 to $60, at least. Most patrons will go for a 10-25 min dance.
The dancers that were making money where doing one or both of the following: working every night the club is open (excludes Monday) and/or have a nice "bevvy" of regulars (weekly, fortnightly, monthly).
It isn't like impossible to work every night as you could easily do 9pm until 3am... which is under 40 hours work each week. Yet, you will have nights where you will go home with nada... I did.
I gave up on Hooters because my biggest night was my first night (a Saturday) with $250... followed by my last night (another Saturday) with $120... Sunday and Tuesday shifts I earnt under $100... Wednesday I refused to stay any longer past 1.15am due to having earnt $0.
You seriously have to work every night to even crack $800 at the moment! >:( :o
If you can sell/hustle... you will do well... however remember that the club is taking a percentage of that $100 dance you just sold. I personally don't like that.. I do prefer fees these-days.
They also have restrictions on what you can wear: stilettos only and dresses or long skirts. Most dancers wear a long dress/gown or bikini top and long skirt. Before I left, there were rumours that they were going to introduce a uniform... hence all the dancers will be wearing the same outfit.
The stage needs more grip.. or more room. At first I liked the swing on the stage but now I see it as annoying as I'm a 'floor work' girl... and it would constantly get in the way.
It is a decent enough club but the money earning potential for dancers like myself who are just travelling through... well... it isn't that great.
Only work here if you will be on the Gold Coast for a decent length of time. This is one club where having regulars definately helps.
