This club is crazy. In a bad way. I'll just walk you through the whole experience. I called at 2pm on a Tuesday, and the woman who answered was rude af. I asked when I could come audition and she said "how old are you?" I said 32 but I don't look it (come thru botox!), to which she said "you probably look it and you know it, but here's number to text photos to and we'll see". I had to have her repeat the number and she was pissed to say it twice. I should have smelled trouble at that point, but I texted the photos. No reply. Two hours later I texted "I'd like to audition tonight" and she replied with a thumbs up emoji, followed by a list of things I needed (including painted nails and toes with no chips, but not including brand new shoes which I later found out they require). I tried to ask questions and she was non responsive. Went in. It looks really nice inside and out. Some customers at 6pm. House mom comes down and barks "come on then". I guess that's who I was texting. She got pissed that my shoes were not brand new. They're maybe four weeks old. She said if I worked there I would need unscuffed shoes every night. She was pissed about my tattoos despite me sending her three almost nude photos before coming in. She auditioned me for five songs. FIVE SONGS. On a tiny tiny runway stage. Less than 3ft wide. She demanded to see pole tricks but the poles aren't attached at the top so it isn't safe. Never mind the tiny unsafe stage. She said "I guess you look okay" and then hired me. I am a pole dance teacher. I am in awesome shape and look 25. I have ten years of experience. Clubs are eager to have me in them and she acted like she was doing me a favor. Then handed me a three page rule book. Is this a chain restaurant or a strip club? No touching. No drinking (yet a minimum bottle sales per week. Wtf). No rap or rock (sooo...???). Must change outfits 6 times a night. CRAZY rules. Some directly contradicting each other. Also, there's a schedule and outrageous house fees, which is illegal. She also said I would have to come in at 3pm to "train" for several days. I left with a really bad feeling. Long story short, I got hired at Sammy's across town and it's not a nightmare. I found out from several of the girls there that The Furnace is a cover for prostitution and coke. It figures. I couldn't figure out why girls would work there or how they made money. Now I know. One of my IG followers then told me "you need to work at The Furnace. They are way more relaxed in the back rooms." Sammy's is an "anything goes but touching actual genitals" club, so that tells you a lot. Tl;dr- It's a crazy nightmare full of unsafe dancing areas and micromanaging. It's also "one of THOSE clubs".

This club is very upscale and kind of resembles the Cheetah in Atlanta with a mezzanine. It is much bigger, more high-end, and much more competitive than Sammy's. Most of the dancers were very cool, but some were blatantly rude at all times. The owner enforces $10 lap dances, with the reasoning that "The Cheetah does it in Atlanta." Huh. Almost all Atlanta clubs offer $10 dances, which are air dances as a city rule. The customers at the Furnace always expect an actual lap dance, and the "private dance" couches are very visible. Literally no dancers actually do air dances here except clueless girls on their first day. Private dances are always better done upstairs, with a higher chance of the customer buying a second one, since it is less awkward (I prefer private dances in private, but thats just my preference). The vast majority of dancers charged $20 anyway. I did too, but the owner threatened to fire me when some guy reported me once. Almost all customers did not mind paying $20... Which was good, since the house dues continuously climbed during the month I was there. It became a base of around $60, plus a $10 minimum to the DJ and house mom. This is very steep for a club in Alabama. You also get ticketed $20 for violating any minor rules: being late to a stage, not getting offstage on time, being late (the club is in a strange, isolated industrial location; it's easy to get lost even if you have Google Maps!), etc. It usually gets busy after midnight, so the first six hours can be long, unless you want to pay extra to come in later. I was not a fan of the owner, but the floor managers were fantastic! They were very friendly, provided excellent security, and introduced me to some of the best customers. There is also excellent food here and drink commission is 40%, or $10 for a $22 dancer drink (cheap champagne).

After working in Atlanta for 2 years, I thought it might be a nice change to work in Birmingham- about 2 hours away. After doing some research online, I found out that the better clubs were The Furnace and Sammy's. I ended up going to the Furnace. After following the directions there from Google, I thought I had gotten totally lost because it seemed like I was in some industrial area in the middle of nowhere- but that's where the club is. I got there around 8 PM - which is when they told me to get there. I got dressed, and then they had we wait to audition in a chair next to a side stage. Then another girl - we'll call her Alexis -- joined me to wait to audition too. She worked over at Sammy's and was looking for a change of scenery, too. While we were waiting, I got a good look at the place. It is very nice. The girls are about average, what you would expect from a not so big city. It was Saturday night, and it was DEAD. But then, it was early.

After an hour, we were both told to go on (separate) stages. We both danced for 2-3 songs. I made about $5-7. Alexis made about the same. Then we both went into the manager's office, and she told us that we would have to wait for the general manager to show up so that we could audition AGAIN. In the meantime, she told us that we would have to get a dancer permit AND a business license (since we are independent business owners), which would cost several hundred dollars, and we would not be able to work until then. We were only allowed two non-champagne drinks per night. After than champagne cocktails only, and we were required to sell at least 2 of those.

So, then we went back to waiting. And waiting. Every so often a bouncer would come by and say the general manager was 'on the way'. He was 'on the way' until midnight, at which point, I got up and told them that if the manager didn't respect my time, I didn't want to work there. As I was packing up my things, several dancers came up to tell me that I shouldn't be offended- that they all had to go through the same thing- it was a test to see if I really wanted the job. As I was leaving, a bouncer told me that the manager really was on the way, as soon as the Alabama game was over. Which of course, just infuriated me more. All he had to do, was tell me to come back after midnight, or come back on another day - not tell me he was on the way for 3 1/2 hours.

Alexis and I spent so much time chatting that we ended up exchanging numbers before I left. She did get hired there, and she worked there for a month before going back to Sammy's. She said that it is almost always dead til midnight- you make all your money between 12-2. Dances are $10. You can sometimes charge $20 for those that expect a little more mileage (all of them), but that the skanky hoes in the club are low balling at $10, and screwing up everyone's money. And VIP might as well not exist.

I worked there for August to November. For Alabama as a topless club, the earning potential is high, especially if you're really cute, have a good personality, ect. Mostly averaged $250-$500 a shift, with a few $650 and $850 nights, but nothing too consistent. Table dances are $10, but most of the hustlers charge $20 regardless and gave more "contact" for the dance. You sell champagne drinks for $22, with a kickback to you of $10. You're allowed to dance on pole or on the floor, pick your own music from the dj, ect ect. You have to have a schedule, which sucks, but most of the time, you only have 30-40 girls working. You also have a locker. Most girls have purses to carry cash around in, and "other" things, and a LOT of girls there like to party...but if you're caught, you're fired. They have cameras in VIP, so only a little more contact is allowed, but that's where you make your money. Most girls try for $200 a half hour, but settle for $150....a few slow nights the girls will do it for $100 if that's all that open. Managers will try to hook up with you the first month, casual flirting kinda things, but give up after a while if you're not going to hook up with them. Must do a "working audition" until permit is cleared, which may cause you to not be allowed in VIP, but wasn't a problem for me....So, the cash is up and down, but it might be good to work for a weekend if you're passing through, I'd work there again...
